Hi, I am a new member.
I have a 900 cabriolet (1992) and I need left side wheel arches but am finding them hard to locate. Everywhere has non-cabriolet panels but obviously the cab back panel is different. Does anyone have an idea where I could locate these parts?

The rear quarter panel is different, but the wheel arches are not. A good panel beater / bodyshop would be able to put new arches into a quarter. I believe Saab may still have old new stock arches still available for 900 upto 1993 models.

So, RP, are you saying that if I buy wheel arches for a 900 2 door then a panel beater could make them into the correct size for my cabriolet?
It is only the wheel arches that need replacing because of rust.

There are repair panels for the wheelarch lips which can be used for either version.

At least they were still available from Saab when I had the LHS rear wheelarch lip repaired on mine a bit closer to the beginning of this century...

I might have to go down this route as the (not cheap) rust repair I had done to one of my arches has gone the same way 18 months on.

It's always the near side too. Reckon it's due to that being the side nearest the gutter in this country.

Indeed. I think you'll find three and five door are the same too. I've got a five door 900SE I'm breaking. Don't know if the arches are good, but there's every reason they should be, so you should consider cutting good arches out of a shell. Consider the steel when you think about what I'm suggesting. The classic 900's used a high grade of steel and one of thicker gauge than any other manufacturer I can think of. You won't have a problem finding a shell in great condition to cut sound condition arches out of. Your biggest challenge will be finding a body shop. I know one of those too. It's all about doing your homework.

If you're interested in a (donor?) 900 classic convertible with good body inc rear quarters, I know where there is one in London for reasonable money.

Zaphod, fliptopbin off UKS/SC here smile

I have heard a lot of good things about JamSaab - would they be good people to approach about a restoration of my T16S? What are their prices like?

The one in my profile.

91MY T16S

could do with:

- respray
- refurbish wheels
- headlining
- restitching of seats / general refreshing of leather
- sorting of rust (door bottoms, beneath tailgate, engine bay (probably needs engine removal but if it's being fully resprayed...), n/s/r wheelarch
- mechanical freshening, replacement of old pipes, etc.
- replacement of old bits that have had their day (indicator stalk, etc.)

I'm pretty anal about it - I guess what I'm after is a new carwink or as close as possible, so just a bloody good going over mechanically replacing any parts that need it.

I realise it is not going to be cheap and I will never see the money again, but it is something that I am considering smile

Thanks RP, but I can't spend that sort of cash. I'll scout around for panels and panel beaters until I find a decent one at a good price.
I'll try this jamsaabs spot.

My advice then is to confirm my wheel arch observations, then find a donor car to cut them out of. That should be cheap enough. Your biggest expense is down to the body shop. Shame you're not in Yorkshire.

Sorry, I appear to have overlooked this post.

Yes I know where you could have that work done, but it would be quite costly.

Yes, I knew it was going to be pricey! Realistically I don't think I would be going that much to town, at least not unless my numbers come up!

More likely would be a "freshening" I guess - cosmetic sorting, but most importantly seriously cutting out all the rust and making sure it's all properly rustproofed so no more is coming back (can you tell I'm battling with rust at the mo? wink ) Also, going through the running gear and freshening hoses/cables/tired components etc.

Out of interest, care to take a ball park figure guess at either procedure? Would be interested to know who you would recommend to do this - feel free to PM me via my profile.

Had another miserable day today where I discovered a new whine from belts/pulleys, I am definitely losing coolant somewhere, and it rained hard again and rain is leaking into the footwell weeping
