Just picked up a 9000 CSE as a runabout

Its fully loaded and I paid not much for it....
However, all is good apart from when you use the kickdown facility, it will get to a certain rpm and then almost give you a thump through the whole car like a rev limiter would. It doesnt happen if you gradually increase speed, more like when you are accelerating as quickly as possible.
Any pointers?

The problem sounds like the auto box. The seal is leaking behind the clutch and it thuds when changing gear in the manner you describe because of lack of fluid/pressure. It could last for a very long time like that. Probably already has. From cold start I bet it thumps first time you put it in gear?
Hi,
Sorry let me describe it a little better as it happened again this morning.
Say for example, I just accelerate, it will be fine until it gets to a certain number of revs, it will then sort of hesitate, thats a better word for it and the car will shake a bit but then continue to accelerate - its as if someone if pulling the throttle cable the opposite way or something like that!

If it shakes like scuttle shake, and it feels like it's through the whole body, this too sounds like the auto box is at fault. You could check the drive shaft spiders in the drive pods, or the drive pods themselves where they exit the transmission casing. It does sound like auto box to me though. It's the inconsistency that convinces me so. Hi
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am having a similar problem...
Saab 9000 2.3 LPT Manual
When the car is under load ie accelerating, or maintaining a constant speed up a hill, at certain revs (seems random at what revs it happens), it will hesitate. Just for a split second and then the power comes back in. It is almost as if a small bit of dirt/water went through the fuel system, I guess.
This problem has not changed since I gave the car a full service, including new spark plugs, new oil, new fuel filter and a shot of redex.
Any thoughts anyone??? Vacuum leak?

Ahh, it's not dumping all the power. I don't feel concerned that its all power is removed, just a light, quick stutter or hesitation. It won't affect me revving up through the gear, just feel like I have lifted off the throttle for a split second (but it happens far faster than the throttle response could do, if that makes sense)
Oh, and it doesn't happen just at WOT. I could be ambling at 2k RPM and it happen

Hi , was browsing and saw this post, whilst you changed the fuel filter (I presume you mean the inline) I seem to recollect a filter on the pump itself?
Or it could be the pump giving up the ghost perhaps?.
Try a fuel pressure test and that may eliminate the fuel system from the equation.
All electrical connections on the ignition circuit need to be good ,parting the obvious ones and spraying with electrical contact cleaner is always a wise move as is checking for any loose or partially broken wires.
Hope this may help.(Yes I've been there... )
