I have owned mine for about a year now and was thinking it was time to part company. It flew through it's MOT today, which is nice but I reckon it's time to let go. Thing is, my name is Monza Phil but it's been well over a year since I actually drove one. I don't want to change my name to 900 Phil... and anyway, it drives the wrong wheels. I'll list it in the classifieds once I've taken some new pics but I need to price it somewhere between "hmm, that's cheap" and "feck, that's a lot". I saw one for sale at over 5k and thought the latter..... I hope you folks can give me an idea on price, or even better come round with millions of pounds

Full dealer history, 3 owners, 113600 miles(ish) which means it was last serviced about 350 miles ago at the beginning of last September by Sewards in Bournemouth. Typical saggy headlining and unfortunately wear in the wool on the drivers seat, unused spare, toolkit, bag for stowing the punctured roadwheel, non original but pretty much correct to period Sony cassette head unit and a 6 disc in the boot, owners manuals and wallet, fairly recent exhaust (genuine), new battery (yesterday), remote locking with 2 sets of keys and plippinators.

I just want to fund the necessary work on my GSE and go on a world tour and buy a helicopter....

Cheers.

I've got a Ruby as well. I think prices vary from £1000 to £3000 depending on it's condition. I'd ask on saabscene if I were you. I drive a 9000 FPT most of the time but it's great fun getting back into the Ruby and feeling the ride.

With dropping headlining and scabby wool on the seat i'd suggest you go for £2500 and accept anything north of £2200.

Cheers folks. Since the weather is hotting up, I'll be enjoying it for the next couple of weeks (that and the fact I have to make a good impression when I go out on Wednesday so I can't use the PoLOW)

Relatively speaking, probably one of the greatest production cars ever built was the pre General Motors 900. From 1979 to 1993 there were so many great model variations. Amongst them the first 8v Turbos, then the 8v Turbos with APC. Who could forget the first 900 16v Turbo S known unofficially as the 'Aero'. The Carlsson models of course, which came later. The Ruby in comparison could have been so much more given it was the last of the model run. Instead it was somewhat a granddad's Saab with it's not so racy suspension, lack of body kit and those somewhat grey Norman Majoresque half leather half biscuit seats. I guess GM already had their claws into Saabs bean counters and forced them to raid the parts bins in an effort to use up what was left from an out of fashion production line. One thing's for sure. No one builds a car today as good as Saab screwed those old 900's together. Hewn from Swedish bedrock!

yeah, I know about the car, had two 8 valve turbos I was wondering at the significance of the term Ruby

^ Ruby is the colour of the paintwork.

^^ Ruby's got the red apc unit so a bit more power then the previous turbo variants, 185 hp v 175 hp iirc. They also got a sportpack suspension kit and a rear antiroll bar so I'd say they got the best suspension. Lack of skirts makes them look a bit tame compared to a T16 but I think they're probably faster. I'd like a ruby with an aerokit fitted.

I wanted a Ruby precisely for the fact it didn't have the aerokit, always thought it looked made a T16 look a bit naff. Never did get the Ruby, couldn't find a decent one at the time and ended up buying a 9k Aero instead.

Ruby also because, iirc, it coincided with the Saab's Ruby (40th) anniversary.

Nearly bought one a few years ago, but it was a little tatty. Prefer my T16S. Performance wise there'll be nothing in it now (175 vs 185bhp) and 2 minutes with the APC apart and a screwdriver would sort that anywaywink

Always liked the Ruby seats but prefer the Aero kit.

Are there still any timewarp 900s left? They're all pretty long in the tooth now. I would love to have the spare cash to blow a few grand getting mine rebuilt (all rust sorted, respray, mechanical freshening, reupholstered etc... cloud9

Finally got a working flipping computer box thingy. TBH the Ruby is a fine car, probably a little too fine for me..... the only thing that really bugs me is the fact it's front wheel drive. I have a bit of a thing for old 80's coupes but if you look at them, they are all big engines and RWD. As I mentioned before, I need to get moving on fixing up the Monza so the Saab has gotta go. Going to have the headlining out next couple of weeks so I can get it re-stuck. Obviously I'll never be able to find any seats for it but hey, it is 15 years old so a bit of wear is expected. I've done nearly as many miles in the last fortnight in it as I had in the 12 months .... smile

Erm..... well, I'd like £1,000,000.00 and a helicopter but failing that, in todays economic climate... seasonally adjusted etc etc... hmmmmmmm

I was hoping for about £4k but I see that the general opinion is that I'd be very lucky to break £3k for it. A certain specialist had one up for over £5k not too long ago and it's been sold. Come have a look. smile

That looks lovely. Any decent car upholstery place would be able to fix the driver's seat. Door bottoms look good and under the bonnet looks clean.

I reckon that's worth 3k+.

Lovely motor indeed - I'd sort the lower seat squab before selling as it does the overall condition of the car injustice. thumbup

Personally I can do without the 25 kg worth of moulded plastic...wink
