need a decent Saab indie in Surrey
Discussion
can anyone reccomend one?, i bought a 9-5 Aero and it doesnt seem to have the pull it should do until about 4000 rpm, there is just not enough power there, it has had a performance air filter so im wondering if the previous owner had it re mapped for peak power, God knows why he would have wanted to but thats about all i can think of.
It maybe that it's been driven with a light foot by the previous owner. Remember Trionic 'learns' how its driven and constantly adjusts performance to suit, so if you constantly drive it in lots of traffic and with a light right foot, T7 will adapt to suit.
Could be why now that you are trying to give it some, it feels 'slow'.
So, 'drive it like you stole it' for a week or so and it should start adapting backup.
If not perhaps then get it checked out, there maybe a split or partial block in one of the turbo hoses which is a common thing to cause a performance drop off.
Also, what fuel are you using?
Aero's need 98RON.

i assumed they were ok on 95?, it feels as though its definatly holding back if that makes sense?, my brother has a 9000 2.3T and that definatly feels a lot faster, maybe it could be the ECU in safe mode or something like that?.
Well, you can run them on 95, but you won't be getting the full performance from it as they are designed for a min of 98RON, hence the big note on the inside of the fuel filler flap.Believe me it's not the ECU in safe or limp home mode as you REALLY would notice that, you'd never even get it near 4000rpm if it was in safe mode.....
As I said, put SUL in it (not BP Ultimate as they don't seem to like that for some reason?) and then give it a week or so (preferably at least two tank fulls of SUL) of 'driving it like you stole it' and see if T7 adapts back to it's full performance.
If there's no improvement, then take it in to somewhere.
Oh, is it a manual or an auto...?

hi, thanks for the advice, its a manual one, i checked all the boost pipes are on but the gauge fails to get anywhere past the beginning to middle of the yellow so maybe it could be a perished pipe?, i will run some Super unleaded through it to see if this helps but just to prepare for the worst do you know of a decent Saab indie i could get it booked into?, if it means travelling a little way im prepared to do so.

Don't get too concerned about the boost gauge reading as it's NOT a real boost gauge.....;)It's a electronic torque request meter for want of a better phrase. It's a conversion of an electronic signal from the ECU. How far it reads up the scale can actually be adjusted by a dealer via Tech2.....
There used to be a place called Carlssons of Leatherhead, but I don't know how up on newer Saab's they are or really how good they are, never used them, and have seen mixed reports on forums etc. May be worth a try thopugh.
If you are prepared to venture a bit further there's a place down in Sussex that does seem to have a good reputation, and that's Saabflight...see link below.

Indeed! My 270bhp MapTuned Aero shows max boost at the line between orange and red. I only use the gauge by "keeping in the white" whilst the engine warms up...It's a electronic torque request meter for want of a better phrase. It's a conversion of an electronic signal from the ECU. thanks for the help guys, ive decided to get it looked at as its definatly not in the slightest right, had a thought it might be the DI pack after doing some more reaserch but not sure.
Prof would be interested to know how you find your Maptuned Aero as i was thinking about using them for a chip change and possibly going as far as thier 290BHP/440NM torque package myself after its teething troubles are resolved of course.

i had it looked at today, the turbo pipes are all connected, there are no fault codes showing, the only thing they could think of was the non standard air filter, and if its not that then possibly the ECU or turbo itself however they found the idea that the turbo was at fault unlikely as they said it looked to be in good condition with no oil leaks etc, they were at a complete loss as to whats causing it, i am also.

Air filter won't be causing it, it won't make it faster, but it won't make it slower either. Only thing you have to be carefull of with an aftermarket filter is if it's an oil based one like, as a too heavy oil application can cause contamination of your MAF which will cause problems. A reason to keep the standard OEM paper filter, which is good for 350+hp anyway. If there's no fault codes, then I still favour the turbo pipes.
Did they pull them all off to check for internal restrictions?
Seen that before, where a rubber pipe has swelled inside causing a restriction in the air flow, not apparent from an outside inspection.
If not, then I reckon it's just been driven too carefully for too long and as I said before, a few tankfulls of SUL and cane the arse off of it for a few weeks and see if T7 adapts back up.

I'm really pleased, had it done (remapped ecu, filter, 3" exhaust with sports cat) at the end of January - no problems so far.30% more power and 40% more torque really shows. Pattern of delivery much the same (not big torque below 1700 revs - it's a slushbox) but pickup is now awesome and I'm using the sport mode much less (mainly just in the twisties now). Had it done by APL Saab in Kirkham - they were very professional.
