9-5 3.0 TiD - faulty injector
Discussion
Car ocasionally miss fires, / feels like in limp home mode, Saab dealer has diagnosed it as a faulty injector on cylinder 5 (for £80 diagnostic fee), after I had replaced the air mass flow mtr thinking that was causing the fault.
That sounds simple and painless I thought, till I got the quote, £1.399
Basically Saab recomend the replacement of the single injector (just 1 in the above price, approx £500), replacement of all 6 injector pipes at £80 each (which seems to me to be over the top), plus 6 'O' rings at £20 each (a lot of money for a small rubber band!)
I am at present running a tank of fuel with a cleaner in it, in the hope it is a blockage, and the fault will go away.
Q1 - How easy is it to change an injector, I am assuming that as Saab are only including about £100 for labour, that it is not that difficult.
Q2 - Are any special tools required?
Q3 - Can the existing fuel lines be re-used. I am guessing that this is Saab going over the top.
Q4 - I am assuming that as Saab are quoting for 6 'O' rings and 6 fuel lines, that you have to remove all 6 fuel lines to get to ther injector on number 5. Is this so?
Q5 - If it is a DIY job, which is cylinder number 5? I would assume they are numbered left to right?
Q6 - Are after market injectors available, or am I stuck with paying Saab's prices
Any help is much appreciated.
Since the posting I have put Slick 50 'fuel system treatment'into a tank, and from 5 min after putting Slick 50 into the tank, to now (approx 250 miles), the car hasn't missed a beat.
Fingers crossed it was a blocked injector and the Slick has cleared it through, if not, it's one hell of a coincidence.
£17.99 is a lot less than the £1,399 quoted by Saab as a solution.
If the fault doesn't re-appear, I plan to put Slick 50 in every few thousand miles.
