Has the above car with 120,000 on it its 02/52 reg and now out of the blue it stopped working the main dealer reset the error codes to get it out of limp mode but told him the fuel pump was on its very very last legs (owner travels near on 1500miles a week!). Price is quoted at £2k+ for the job, I have called Thames Valley Electro Diesel and they said it could be one of two parts I need the reg/chassis number for the correct one but it either a single plug which costs £970incl VAT or the twin plug which is £2200 incl VAT neither part is servicable.
Only 6 weeks ago it had a main dealer service and the cost of repairs was an additional £800.
So the question is given milage & age and the huge cost of the job should he get rid of the car now Or get it fixed?

Sounds similar problem to mine.
I was told by 2 x Saab dealers that it is dificult to diagnose the fuel pump, as they have no means of fixing a meter to the rail, however, it is a recognised fault with this engine, and your costs are in the right area.
However, I was also told it was possible the mass flow meter, which again, the easiest way to prove if it is faulty or not is to try one, which I did at a cost of £120 (so if you want to buy a working second one give me a shout).
After trying my own diognostic of 'trial and error' I put into Saab for diagnostics, and told it was a faulty injector, £1,400 to replace.
I put a tube of Slick 50 through, and the car has ran like a dream ever since.
I have done 104k from new (04) with no trouble, some people would say I have been lucky, but all cars have faults if you did deep enough, so I am taking my chances that I will get a few more miles out of it!
