Giving the 95 aero a boost....
Discussion
From the little I've read the best way seems to be a BSR PPC upgrade thingy.
You plug it in, upgrade your ECU and off you go.

Seem to retail at about 500-550 quid and are highly regarded.
I've asked Santa for one!
but I think I'll just be getting aftershave unfortunately

As you've got an early Aero (230hp) a Stage 1 ECU only upgrade will bring up to around the level of a facelift 250 car with a bit more torque. Despite the advertising, DON'T expect much more.
The trouble is it's addictive....... and you'll want more, say exhaust blah etc., etc blah....
Then you have a problem as you will need a new program for that etc (a Stage 1 ECU from a tuner won't work very well with Stage 3 and above hardware)
So, if you think at all that you might want to continue down the upgrade route...DON'T choose BSR, choose a tuner that will give you a discount for further ECU upgrading...BSR won't and can't do custom tune either.
Go with either Maptun or Nordic......and it just so happens that they have the best software anyway.

Should I or shouldn't I....
I have a 95 Aero on a W with 109k on the clock. It's a auto
Should I get it chipped? Do I lose any economy? Will I blow up the auto box :-)
only just noticed the thread but, you know the answer is 'Of course you should' I have a 95 Aero on a W with 109k on the clock. It's a auto

p.s hope the car is still going well. I keep asking the "should I or shouldn't I" about supercharging the ZT I will if you spend the same on the Saab

I'm having my 9-3 auto stage three'ed in January by MapTun. I asked this very question. MapTun rate the auto box on my 02 Aero as capable of handling up to 400Nm of torque. Their mappings only give big power above 1700rpm, so a 370Nm stage 3 will be OK with the autobox. Having sadi all that - I don't do drag-racing anyway, I'm looking for grunt on the move Gassing Station | Saab | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
