I've just bought a 9-5 3.0t v6 1999 from auction. It seemed sweet until I drove it out the gate and realised it was indeed - buggerd.

Basically it runs, but sruggles to stay at idle. When you floor it there is no power. i.e foot to the floor and very very slow to get going.

I only got it 100 yards and smoke was coming out from the bonnet with a strong smell. It seems like it's not firing on all cylinders. The oil seems fine and there are no rattles or strange noises. I'm stumped.

Any ideas? I bought it for £1000 and will be happy if the repair bill is less than <£500.

I went from being well chuffed to absolutly gutted in 3 seconds.

How strange, my father in law was just telling me on the phone about a cheap 9-5 v6 99 that went for about a grand at the auction near Norwich. I told him he should have stuck his hand up! Wasn't the car was it? As for your problem, sorry mate I'm as stumped as you are!

Haha Yes it was in Norwich!
Well I've identified the fault as the di cassette, orderd a new one £130. Hopefully will still be a bargin. Other than that fault it's a lovely car, immaculate and FSSH.

Good stuff, serves the dodgy sod (that now appears to have mugged his car away, no doubt thinking it was something much more serious) right! Which local garage gave you such a swift (and hopefully correct) diagnosis? If that's all that was wrong that was one cheap car! I'm still trying to work out who to entrust mine to, who is knowledgable but isn't going to bleed me dry!

I've spoken to the people on Saab forums and they're pretty sure that's what it is. There was even a recall for this part but doesnt cover my model (I dont know why becuase mine is obviously faulty aswell!).
I viewed the car properly last friday (before the auction on tuesday), at which point the engine was running fine, I didnt bother to check again on tuesday and that's what screwed me over.
Speak to your friends and colleuges about good experiences with garages and ask around the saab forums.
