101K miles, but FSH. Anything I should look out for with this model?

Car advert is on http://www.justsaab.co.uk/9-5%20Stock/RD03-ZHK.htm

Used to have a 9-3 convertible with 110K miles and after that a 9-3 2.2 TiD which sounded like a tractor! I remember the throttle body went on the convertible at about 100K miles and this was a common failure on these cars, does the 9-5 have similar concerns?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Nice........and in Merlot Red as well..yes
About 75% of Aeros are usually either boring silver, black or steel grey.
So a rare colour and a nice colour and it has the equally rare ventillated seat option as well....yes

Yes throttle bodies can be a problem, although somethimes they just need a good cleaning out rather than replacing. This doesn't seem to be such a problem on Aero's though for some reason.

Basic checks are just the order of the day, if it looks good and drives nice then it's probably OK.
I'd definately want to see a properly stamped service book though, with a dealer or at least a known Saab indie.

Check the tyres are all the correct 94W load rated ones as well.

Do the usual checks for any white smoke on startup/accel etc., to see if the turbo is OK, but again, the TD04 turbo on the Aero is pretty good, and a lot better longer lasting than the ones in non-Aero's.

Theres a very comprehensive buyers guide for the 9-5 on Saabscene.

Rear shocks are a known weak spot.

Looks nice in burgundy, I'm currently looking to upgrade the old bus to a 9-5 Aero Estate.

They're fab cars.

This is more relevant to the pre-02 facelift cars.
The suspension changes from 02 onwards were a big improvement.

Anyway, if the rear shocks are shot, then that's a damn good reason to fit the Hirsch suspension....clap

Just bought a 03 aero auto last week.
91K with FSH. 1 owner
Paid 5.5K + 4 new tyres.

So that price from dealer doesn't seem out of the way.

Only done 200 mile so far but I'm impressed.

Seems to be plenty of independents and web part suppliers to keep you
running at reasonable cost.
just done oil and genuine filter change with Fuchs XTR 5w30 fully synthetic for £19

That's not bad, think I'll keep looking since I'm not in a rush to buy and was hoping to keep it under £6,000 anyway.

Really? Really really?

I just bought an Aero Wagon.

I have to say, it does surge onwards rather tremendously.

do it. they're cracking cars for the money. although i currently drive a 93 aero, i've driven my mate's 95 plenty of times and found it to be a comfortable cruiser.

Ive just returned to Saab ownership and I'm glad to be back !

Just bot a 95 2.3t se estate and even with only 185bhp ( at the mo!) it moves quickly for a big old girl ! its also a very comfortable place to be on long journeys as I found out last week when I travelled from Barcelona to Calais in 10.5 hrs with Sid telling me my Average speed was 86mph ! Got out the other end as fresh as when I got in.

Great cars, with big load capacity which was my requirement and it's not german!

Bought a 54 plate 9-5 Aero estate at the weekend andyou're not wrong. The acceleration is pretty relentless....very rapid but not a 0-60 motor.

My first car with heated leather seats too. Feels like I've wet myself smile

Saab philosphy has never been about 0-60......engine power/torque curve design has always been biased towards massive mid-range instead, which is afterall, more real world useful than 'top trumps' useful....biggrin

0-60mph in six seconds...good for an old mans car..j-clarkson loved it mid range it was quicker than a 911 turbo, you cant get much faster.but so understated. .i love em

114k on my 02 Aero Estate.

Just realised I have had it 3 years now. Pity my mileage is much less than I was expecting so I don't get much chance to let it stretch itself, which is a shame.

I echo all of the positives mentioned above. It does seem to keep pulling and pulling.

Negatives?

Door mirrors tend not to clear rain drops too well.

My pre-flappy paddle auto can be a bit 'off' if pushing on without engaging sport mode and I forget to work with it.

Front tyres seem good for about 15k.

People don't get out of the way on track days like they do for, say, a TVR or something exuding performance.

Nobody's mentioned the oil pickup sludging problem - does this not happen on the Aero?

My brother bought a Y plate 9-5 2.3t SE and got the sump dropped - there was some sludging. Regular oil changes and Mobil 1 should see it good thumbup

Only negative problem with them that I have found is that the electric window control is the same as in the Corsa B :|

if you ALWAYS use fully synthetic oil it shouldnt be a problem

You'd think wouldn't you? But this car was main dealer serviced to the schedule and still had sludging...

The fact the main dealer did it doesn't mean they used the right oil wink

Saab will fix damage from sludging up to 8 years provided you can prove all oil changes were done to schedule I believe?
