Can any one help
Here are the details of the problem with the SAAB.
When in 5th gear at around 60mph and asking the car to gradually increase speed (not a dramatic stamp on the accelerator or anything like that) to about 70mph there is a loss of pull and the car engine warning light goes on and we are in "limp home" mode. Often this will correct itself after the car has stopped, but the light remains on. Then maybe the next day the warning light goes out. It does not happen again for a few weeks/months then does it again.

- ***** SAAB have replaced the EGR valve twice; the first time saying that this was the problem; then saying that it might have been a faulty new part. The problem continued and they replaced a MAP sensor. It has been back to them 4 times and we still have the problem. I have no confidence in them and don't think they know what to do other than keep charging me for replacing things which are probably not faulty!!!
Go to http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/index.php and pick the forum for your model - do a search and see what you can find. If you don't find anything post to that forum (give as much information as possible). There are real Saab geeks on there and they can be very informative - it has worked for me in the past.
Either way, the engine management light on the 9-3 SS (diesel and petrol) is a nightmare - speak to your friendly AA man and he will have countless tales of woe.
My wife and I both have 9-3 Tid 150'S (although mine is a 175 courtesy of Mr Hirsch). I've been in a loan car for nearly 4 weeks and my wife for 2 weeks as a consequence of these warning lights. My car has a multitude of other problems and has been returned to Luton for a fix (some hope). I've now has a total of 12 weeks in a loan/hire car since buying my Saab new in July 2005.
The difficulty arises when your car is under warranty. My wife's 9-3 went into "limp home" mode whilst in the fast lane of the M25 and nearly killed her. The AA man disabled the warning light on the hard shoulder and gave her the fault code to pass onto the Saab dealer. This is where the problem arises. The Saab service department could not replicate the fault and (under GM's new dictat)have refused to replace anything. Once again we are faced with Saab's attitude of "we can't find the problem, take the car back and let us know when it breaks down again".
So the current situation is that angry letters are being exchanged and legal advice sought. My wife continues to enjoy driving a Mk5 Golf (at Saab's expense) whilst I continue to struggle with the lamentable attitude of Saab GB - as a loyal Saab owner (5th and last Saab)I have never experienced such dreadful customer service. I've written letters to Mr Jonathan Nash (the MD)but he seems to have a policy of not replying...........

I had engine warning light problems on my 2002 9-3 2.2 TDI when it was new.
We also had the "limp mode" in the outside lane of the M25 as added info, if you happen to be on cruise control at the time it locks cruise on at the same time
We had a similar saga and the Saab main dealer was frankly woeful. Mine had a whole bunch of sensors changed and after around three attempts it seemed to work.
Strangely, I occassionally get a problem with the light coming on now when I get off the ferry in France! It seems to be linked to sitting in the car with the ignition on (the old Sat Nav liked the ignition on) for the last few minutes of docking and then driving off.
Mine blew an intercooler hose (in Belgium last week - that's twice Sven has come away from Spa on a truck) - lots of smoke, lack of drive, nasty noise but no warning light
