9-3 Convertible v.v.v.v.v.v poor fuel eco....please help!!!
Discussion
I have recently purchased a '55' plate Saab 9-3 Aero Convertible (2.0T) and I find it a fantastic car to drive but I do have a problem with the poor fuel economy (when I look at the on-board computer I am averaging 26mpg!) if you could please offer me some advice on what I can do or who I could talk to about this I would be very grateful,
Thank you very much for your time,

Are you noticing poor fuel economy because you are having to refuel more often than you were expecting, or are you looking at the data from the OBC?
If you hit the 'clear' button while the twiddly knob which controls the DTE / temperature / date display is set to 'average mileage', it will reset the average mileage calculation and and display accurate data henceforth.
If that doesn't help, I guess a trip to a dealer is in order. Presumably the car is still under warranty?

Dude, 26mpg is good!
Probably not what you want to hear, I have an 05 Aero Convertible 2.0T with the Hirsch 230 bhp re-map, my SID averages between 31 & 32 mpg, all time best on a run is 32.8 mpg, generally running on Total 97 oct or similar.
Before you say anything, I am not light footed, except on a motorway with cruse control at 70 mpg (ish!).
Just a thought, is the SID figure supported by your re fueling stops (ie is the SID figure correct?).
I back what an earlier guy wrote, does the distance between re fueling give you the feeling of low mpg? I also run a 3.0 TiD 9-5 which does about 36 mpg, only about 4 mpg more than the 9-3, but it does feel it does much more due to the fuel tank size, but given a 9-3 fill up is £40 - £50, and a 9-5 fill up £60 - £70, the 2 x SID's are probably OK.
Assume it is well serviced, tyres at right pressure?
Check the actual figures. My SID is about 20% over optermistic with the fuel consumption. It must be a "fault" in how they programmed the software as I am sure the averige fuel pump counter is calibrated, and I use the same milage ( fom the car ) as the SID will get.
Clever marketing, but I would prefer it told the truth.
