Does anyone have the 175PS->195PS/265Nm->310Nm performance upgrade from Hirsch? Is it worth bothering with, or not?

Hmmm... is it £850 worth of 'noticeable' though? I can't believe the cost of the thing: surely it is 10 minutes work on a laptop? yikes

My 05 9-3 had a 'Superchips' re map when I bought it from a Saab dealer last November which was claimed to be 210 - 240 bhp increase.

About 2 months ago the ECU failed and the car went into limp home mode (I was not a happy!).

After much discussion with the Saab dealer they offered me an FOC repair with Superchips at 240 bhp, or a Hirsch at 230 bhp, but they would only accept future warenty claims with the Hirsch option, I was just happy they were fixing it FOC on this occasion!

I obviously chose the Hirsch to give me future piece of mind.

For the 2 days it took for the repair I had the use of a standard Aero. It felt very dull to drive compared with mine, got mine back, and it felt like the old car was back.

If I am honest, I think the Superchips was a little more 'firey', with the turbo boost going well into the red, whilst the Hirsch now stops 1 notch into the red.

That said, I do have a Saab waranty for another 12 months!

Decission time!!!

And more than a couple of hours on both rolling road and real roads to develop it, I would hope. wink

I bought my Aero Rag Top at 15 months ond with uprated brakes, Hirsch susspension and Superchips 240 bhp re map, all from a Saab dealer at a price that was comparible to a standard Aero.

Would I buy a standard car and pay £850 to Saab for a Hirsch power upgrade for some 'noticible' improvement, probably not (but a lot of people would!), but as I sort of feel it was included in my purchase price, I am a happy chap, especially as Saab stood by their warenty on the Superchips problem!

I bought an 04 9-3 Aero from a Saab dealer a year ago fitted with the Hirsch upgrade, it does provide a noticeable improvement in performance and has been mentioned will not invalidate your warranty.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's due for an MOT soon, so while the dealer is doing that I think I'll ask for an upgraded car to - ahem - 'try'. wink

What improvement does the Hirsch remap gain for the 2.0t? A friend of mine has one and he thinks he might get it done in a year or so, does it affect economy seriously, or isn't it too bad?

Hi

I can only speak of the results to my Aero, more torque, more bhp etc.

With regards to economy (I do a lot of motorway driving) I can still get more mpg than what the book says. Went from Swindon to Ipswich & back in a day and SID read 35 mpg, filled up on return (tank full at start of trip) and although mpg is not best calculated on one tank, the result was 36.2, 1.2 mpg higher than SID, so I assume SID is in the right region.

If I do a lot of lanes / town, SID drops closer to 30 mpg.

Hope this helps

From the research I have been doing (thinking of doing the same thing) the fuel economy actually improves!

There is a full brochure available at the dealers.

I went the BSR route £500+ to upgrade my 93 175bph Vector to 210bph much much better performance, not so sure about the fuel economy though, mine has seemed to suffer mid 20's now but 'wow it does go' some
