whining noise

Hi this is my first post so here goes,when i first start my engine 2.0t 9-5 estate 2000 model i get a loud whining noise wich seems to to get worse when reving,it sounds like alternator or power steering any ideas cheers

Is it only when the engine is cold?

Get it checked out by a good independant specialist: if there's any doubt about the history or condition of the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system then you may just be hearing the main bearings running without oil as the pump inlet is full of sludge.

the sump dropped and clean will be a good starting place. for £150 at a indiependant will give a good idea along with the pcv kit.a waterpump on start up

Thanks for the advice, it does go quiet after about 10 mins driving.

it's warmed up, could be very costly new engine. got to get it checked out, could be a simple pulley
