have got myself a R reg 900 Se Turbo Talledega, and am so far very impressed with it, its got a couple of things that nee sorting, firstly the 1st-2nd syncro is sticking so it will crunch when you first engage first but if you engage second then first its fine, so may fit a different gearbox at some point but can cope for now, secondly one of the pipes on the a/c system has been damaged which means no a/c and with the weather how it is and having a leather interior i will need to be sorting this quite quickly, which leads me on to my next question, are the air conditioning systems and pipes the same in the 9000 and 900?

Hello there.
I recently bought a p plate saab se turbo coupe talladega too!
mid range excelleration is amazing.
got lots of plans to tune her up.
me too, ive been very impressed so far, i belive a re map an intercooler change can take them to 230 ish BHP which will do me i think, surprised a Mk4 Golf GTI off the lights earlier which was great I recently bought a p plate saab se turbo coupe talladega too!

Not sure about the air con pipes but would imagine they are different - 9000 was a product of collaboration between Saab / Fiat / Alfa / Lancia whereas ng900 was GM.
I can tell you where it is and how it happened though! There is a very low pipe at the front which will have been fractured when it was driven up to a kerb!
Get yourself a steering brace to sort the steering too

thrid gear 50-90 mph not much can touch it. I have out exelerated Audis, beemers and mercs and the look on their face is like how???? lol
also find that when people get up to your ass, and you floor it abit and pull back in to show them what their messing with, they back off and dont try it on.
Also had a tw*t in an escort rs tubo on the a3 the other day try to take me on. That was really funny to watch his embarrasment lol.
check out this video of mine on you tube, 1st stint 55-75 in third gear, then 75-90 quite rapid

is your car tuned mashedup?
Hello mate, well this is the question. My turbo always boosts well into the red, as you can see on the video.
When I test drove the saab, it felt more powerfull to me than a honda ' 51 reg civic type R I was also considering buying at the time. Im glad i didnt now cos the honda was a hell of alot more to insure and buy. lol
I think that it was already tuned when i bought the car, but to be honest I just cant tell as the garage cannot confirm this either. The is also no recipts for tuning, just service stamps upto 72k miles, the car now has 78k, so its now due for a service anyway.
A few have said to get it on a rolling road, its quite likley that it may have been tinkered with. Does it look considerably quicker than standard saab 900 turbo's then?
mashhead, it looks significantly faster than my saab, and in fact reminds me of a little of what my speedometer used to do when i had a volvo t-5 which had 250bhp but was slightly heavier than the saab. maybe your car has the higher output of 210bhp? looking at it again it looks only significantly faster than my car from 90-110, however i know the car can easily crack 150. why dont you get it on a rolling road?
i will drive my saab on friday and see if i can see the noticeable difference

All ng900 turbos were 185bhp as standard - but they are easily tuneable.
Any hints under the bonnet? Hirsch / Abbot / BSR / Speedparts stickers? Aftermarket dump valve, air filter, or exhaust?

Not that I can see. Everything does look standard. Best to get on a roling road, to see what the score is.
Yes, I think so.
Not really up on tuning of the newer Trionic engines, but IIRC it can all be done with new maps. Usually a new exhaust or air filter will be chucked in though!
Might be worth asking on the ng900 tuning forums on saabscene or saabcentral - I'm sure they'd know the usual boost levels. You could plumb in an aftermarket boost guage (just t-piece into the dash guage feed) and find out how many bar you are boosting to - I'm guessing 0.8 bar on a FPT as standard?
Think I've always found with Saab turbos is because of the boost they are very quick at certain points - this can be deceptive! Maybe it applies more to the older cars with less uniform boost, but catching mine on boost in 2nd or 3rd turns it into a real giant killer at times! Having said that, putting my foot down off boost - nothing happens . In theory my 1.8 MX-5 and T16S should have similar 0-60 times of 8ish secs (for what 0-60 is worth). The MX-5 feels a lot slower, although I feel I can really wring its neck and I am more careful with the T16S as it's my P&J

Just watched the video; it appears that the boost guage dips into the red and then eases back to the end of the yellow which is exactly what it should be doing as a standard car. Acceleration is hard to tell out of context but I think it looks about right for the car.
Have fun with it and get yourself a 'Viggen' brace to sort out the torquesteer!
