BSR ECU upgade
Discussion
Ive seen one being done, its a very easy job but it take a long time for the unit to complete the flash!! And do it in the daylight or you will sit in the car in the dark for an hour (not allowed to open the doors, or use any interior electronic devices while it remaps the ECU!)
also, it wants you to do it with the engine warm after a good run - probably to make sure the battery is tip top as it has to sit for an hour wiht the electrics on. and a dead battery during a reflash....i shudder to think what that would do!
read the instructions!!!

also, if it seems only a tiny bit more potent than before, dont worry - it seems to take a while to "bed in" for some reason.
possibly it resets all the "memory" settings in the ECU (like that you use high-octane petrol, that its not 35 degrees C here in the UK etc) and you will notice the boost gets stronger after a few days.

Well I did the ECU tuning upgrade @ the weekend (took 10 minutes)& so far I have travelled 400 miles of mixed driving.
Immediatley the car seems more responsive & as its an auto the gear shifts also seem smoother, hard acceleration is much better with the turbo gauge now firmly in the red, also a definate turbo whistle & the revs seem so hang on a lot longer before the auto changes gear, kick down has changed it kicks down @ 90+ mph.
I did a 300 mile motorway round trip yesterday @ an average of 75mph (ish) & the car returned 32.6 miles per gallon, this was calculating fuel used & not the in-car computer,(which tells lies-it was reading 38mpg).
So pleased with the results, as its turned a relativley sedate car into a respectable fast cruiser, even if it is a bit soft in the corners.
All that remains is to see if the cruise will maintain speed @140mph.

Just done one on my 9-5 2.0 lpt. I already have the high flow snorkel and BSR 2.5" cat back exhaust. I managed 0-60 in 8.7s the other week with the stock ECU (G-tech measurement, could probably have got down to 8.5). So far very impressed. Power delivery feels smoother then standard and holds on to the redline rather then running out of puff at 5K. Much more driveable then my classic 900 was after tuning, and it doesn't torque steer all over the road or spin the wheels or slip the clutch due to sudden torque spikes and my car is at 140K miles on the original clutch! In fact it is surprisingly linear in how it makes power. Between 30 and 80 it is probably as quick as my Porsche but starts to run out of puff compared to my Porsche above about 80. I reckon 0-100 mph would be around 17 to 18 seconds which is plenty fast enough. I really can't understand the negative comments ppl have made about BSR on the net. I believe many of em must have had a problem with the car or are just plain idiots.

forgot to say I will try a couple of 0-60 runs with the G-tech to see what the true improvement is after flashing the ECU with the PPC.
Best time so far using the G-tech to get 0-60 so far is 7.8 seconds but you have to take it right round to 6K rather then shifting up at 5K like with the standard program. Also had a bit of bounce around the top of 2nd caused by the road surface. Fairly sure I could get the time down to around 7.6 seconds if on 17" tyres, smooth road and a stronger clutch. I get a little clutch slip when banging the changes but my clutch has done 140K miles so this is fairly amazingly good really. Getting a good launch becomes much more difficult after PPC programming due to there being much more torque, and hence a much greater chance of wheelspin of the line. Once moving not a problem.Gassing Station | Saab | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
