Our old NG900S was throwing ABS warning lights. I paid the local independent to read the Motronic codes on his Tech II and got a "rear right sensor - no signal".

The rear sensors, unlike the front ones, are built into the rear hub assembly and there fore require a new hub (this is the case on lots of other cars in turned out).

Anyway, I price them up with Saab and the independent - £285 yikes - the internet was little better!

So I went up to my mates garage business (repairs and MoT, no sales) where the car is normally worked on. "Ah!", says he, "we nearly got caught like that with a Vauxhall a week or so back - here's the old one from that..." Shows me a hub with a wire attached...

"The secret is" he says "is to buy a BEARING, not an abs sensor".

"How do you mean?" says I

"Watch this," he replied, and phoned the local bearing company.

"Hi mate - have you got a rear right bearing for a 94 Saab 900?"

"Good, has it got a wire coming out of it?"

"Could you go and look?"

"Good - that's the one - how much? £95? Send it down!"

A huge saving achieved by asking for something in the right terms!

it's also the same hub/bearing/sensor assembly used on the vectra/cavalier (which your chassis plan is) - all factors have them on the shelf at about a hundred quid (retail) as you said
