9-5 knocking noise!
Discussion
Ok, the 9-5 (2.0 LPT V reg with Abbott Racing 215 bhp chip) has now developed a loud-ish knocking noise clearly audiable from the cabin. It qucickens with engine rpm but is not the actuall engine as that is still smooth, it does this at idle, so nuthing to do with suspension or steering.
It has got worse, being ok this morning to bad now.
The alarm problem has also reocurred with it going off but no hazard lights. It also suddenly gets louder (the alarm I mean). However nothing was done about the alarm the first time as the problem seemed to go away.
Any ideas about the knocking noise? Distributer loose? Something loose anyway.
Cheers.

A long shot.
Did this start suddenly or build up over time?
If sudden I had something similar with my Omega when a belt frayed. The loose bit on an edge thrashed around hitting various things and sounding like a knocking noise. Eventually the loose chunk came off and most of the noise stopped. Fortunately it only trashed some plastic cable housing.
Annoyingly it had only been serviced 3 days before ...
However, if yours is a genuine in engine knock it could be a blocked oil way or something - you can't tell anything much from the apparent performance continuity.

Case Closed - £400 later.....
The AA came out to have a look, and they think it is the water pump, bearing gone. Couldnt drive on it as it would have gone properly and blown some retaining arm thing out and caused major damage.
So, it had to be recovered to the garage, and will now have to stay there 'till wednesday next week.
Fortunatly we have AA parts insurance up to £500 with only a £25 sur-charge to pay. Its well worth the £60 quid a year and can have a claim up to 5 times a year. Only previso is that its serviced to manufacturers recommendation. So specialists arnt't ruled out
But, we use a autherised dealer anyway
So, been a good day kind of, (yes, it lasted all day) as instead of shelling out, the AA are instead.
Cheers for your recommendations though.

Sounds like a relative bargain!
The water pump on my Aero had to be replaced but not because of noise. I had a slow water loss the source of which was tricky to determine, defeating 2 pressure tests. Eventually the slow loss accelerated and the suspect water pump was properly fingered.
It was a couple of months outside my Used Saab warranty but the dealer carried out the work at no charge as the problem had been reported and investigated well within the warranty period.
Good to know it does not seem to be anything internal.
