garage has had my car for 2 weeks and keeps fobbing me off
Discussion
Hi, i took my Saab to a indi garage in Brum, to get a simple MOT. I took it in 2 weeks ago, and he still has the car. Everyday i phone him and he says it will be ready the next day..then when i phone..he repeats the story, making up some lame excuse that he had no time. I drove past the garage to make sure the car was still there, and it is but i went in it to collect some cd's and noticed the mileage is up, and sweets and a bottle of coke is in the backseat, which makes me wonder if its been used. He said it would be ready for tomorrow..am i entitled to ask for a discount? it was a MOT job..replacing back suspension bushes, a full service ...and thats it!
surely 2 weeks is taking the piss, what can i say to him tomorrow?

do u think i can get a discount? its been there for 15 days now! he knows i have 2 other cars i can potter around in, so i think he is using that to his advantage. 15 days...also if the car gets stolen or damanged whilst in his care who is responsible?
thanks about looking at test mileage on mot failed certificate.......!!!!!!

I'd be kicking up a fuss right about now. Sounds like he's using your car for his own purposes, which is right against what he should be doing. More to the point, he KNOWS it's an MOT fail, so he's either put it right and not told you (deception), or not yet put it right and knowingly driving around in an MOT-failed car (very dodgy behaviour for a professional mechanic).
Might be worth visiting in person and finding out which. If the first then go to town on the chap (although bear in mind that he's got the keys to your car). If the second then not sure what you can do without proof (mileage change not really enough), but sure he wouldn't like the police, DVLA, or Trading Standards finding out...

i have just called him, i arranged to collect it at 1pm today, and he said that it still isnt effing fixed, and i should call him at 3pm, i said i am going round at 4 to get the car no matter what
he says he has as of yet to fixt the rear bushes and then take it to mot place. he said that it took a week to get the parts..which i accept..but why another week to fix it>? its now been 16 days he has had the car for.......! when i go..i will check the mileage on the car etc, its quite bad as he is a cheap garage and he has fixed my car before to no problems.

check it out
they still have my effing car, and said i can get it tomorrow
the guy fixed the bushes, stuck it on MOT ramp and says the handbrake has came off and is not fixed to the floor so he has to weld it, and cant do that until this evening by which time MOT place has closed down, so will be ready tomorrow instead..i am very very slowly coming to my tether, and just wsant to pay the bill get my car back
this garage did quote £28 for a rear brake disc though..surely this is too cheap?

1) Hmmm...did it feel loose when you drove the car in?
2) Not for a pattern part from a cheap supplier. Depends what the car is and how hard you brake. Personally I wouldn't skimp on brakes...
the thing that gets my goat though was the first thing i said when i took the car in about 18 days ago was that the handbrake wasnt working! yet he told me that he had fixed it, now all this saga with the suspension bushes, which he said took blood and guts to fix, hass finally been fixed, he didnt even do the handbrake, which never worked and anyone could tell it wasnt working
anyway...i pray tonight will be last night i am without my beloved saab
havoc)
1) the handbrake wasnt working at all when i took it in and told the mechanic that
2) i do brake very late, i normally use my gears to brake, i have got new pads and discs all round now which is handy as i am doing a tunnel run soon
