lazy starter

I own a 2001 2.2 93SE turbo. Had lots of probs with it but seem to have cured all except a starting problem. If the engine does not fire first time it takes an age to go. I have already burnt out one starter motor and have taken it into my local dealer but they cannot find the problem. all they can suggest is it may be taking in air from somewhere. I am not mechanically minded. has anyone solved a similar problem.

This is a Diesel yes? As far as I recall the 2.2 was not a great engine - if I was you I'd have a look on: www.saabcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=15
