Just purchased an 05 93 Aero convertible which has been re-mapped by 'Superchips', drives great. The previous owner has also increased the size of the 'dump valve', does anyone know if it is necessary for the bhp increase (210 - 240), or can I refit the factory standard. Relief noise a little anoying!

Not sure about that but Saabs are designed to work with recirculating dump valves not kevvy tsssssh atmospheric ones, in fact often they don't work very well with the ECU.

Have a look on elkparts / partsforsaabs at their Forge aluminium recirc dump valves...

I don't know much about 'dump valves' (or their technical requirement!), Q1 - does that mean that the standard saab valve is a recirc, if so Q2 - If it's a recirc, I assume the one that has been fitted is in addition to the standard and in a different location?

Err.....no, it almost certainley will be a replacement of the original.

The two types are pretty similar, just a different method of working. Essentially, a recirculating type, 'dumps' the excess boost back into the 'system', rather than an atmospheric type that 'dumps' the excess to the atmosphere via a series of vent holes in the dump valve casing creating that nasty 'whooosh' sound so beloved of the boy racers.
On a Saab, beacause of the way Trionic measures all the parameters, fitting an atmospheric type usually results in a check engine light appearing or the ECU throwing some other type of hissy fit because the excess boost 'has disappeared'.

I also wouldn't trust a 'Superchips' upgrade on a Saab....

Sorry to keep asking questions, any reasons for not recomending Superchips re-map on a Saab, you have me worried! Have it in writing from Saab dealer that the warenty is not effected.

Well I'm amazed at that.........eek
You are very lucky or the dealer is very daft.....
Or should that be, the dealer is very daft and you are very lucky....

Offically only a Hirsch upgrade will not void a factory Saab warranty.

Saab's Trionic engine management is a very complicated one, even the Saab specialist tuners don't have an easy time developing programmes for it.
Superchips arn't a Saab specialist tuner as such, so hence my comment. The vast majority of people head to the Saab specialist tuners for upgrades, such as Nordic Tuning or MapTun or of course Saab's 'offical' tuner, Hirsch, especially if the car is still within it's 3 year warranty period.

To be safe I would would get the car on a good RR to check the A/F ratio is OK and other things like that before I would be 100% satisfied the software was OK.
