ECU remaps for a 9k 2.0 Ecopower
Discussion
Hi guys,
Apologies if I sound totally dumb in the following post, but I'm new to tuning Saabs and would like to know a little bit more.
I bought my 9000 CSE a couple of months ago, and since that time have been intrigued by the Stage One Speedparts remap offered by ElkParts on the net (link here: www.elkparts.com/product_info.php/cPath/23_120_570/products_id/913 )
This seems significantly cheaper on a £ per bhp basis than similar offerings from Abbott and Maptun (or at least, those that I've found). I'd heard of Abbott and Maptun, but have never heard of SpeedParts before and wanted to know whether or not they have a good reputation, if any.
Also, would this be a plug-and-play modification? I.e. could I install the new ECU, APC solenoid and filter and just go, or are additional engine mods required to make it reliable? Mine is a 1996, so it's a B204E with the standard intercooler, as far as I'm aware.
What are your thoughts on this, guys? And do you know of any better way to get cheap power out of my 9000? (It's supposed to be a daily drive runaround car, so I haven't really got the money to be spending lots on it - I doubt I can even afford the ECU upgrade shown above!)
Cheers in advance for your advice
Alex

Have a look at www.SpeedParts.se - they are up there with Nordic, Maptun etc as proper Swedish tuners.
From what I've heard there are subtle differences in the way boost behaves, so some people have their favourites, others find certain tuners programs a little harsh.

If your buying stage 1, it is designed to be used with stock hardware, my previous 9-5 was a 2.3 lpt, i used stage2 on it, same software as a stage 1 but with an exhaust, that i needed anyway!
I ran it for 50k miles like that before going for an Aero (tuned to the hilt) brother is still using my old car and still going very nicely indeed.
If you get all the correct info of your old ecu, it should be plug and play.
Go for it, although you'll only want more!
