V-reg 9-5 alarm trouble.
Discussion
Our neighbours said the alarm was going off but the lights weren't flashing. The computer then said "service alarm". Does this mean that the dealer just needs to re-set it or does it have a malfunction. It's said this before now but the alarm had never gone off. The dealer told us it was the key battery the first time and they also changed the sensitivity of the alarm. What shall we do? Any comments please.

No idea on a Saab - not had that problem yet.
But my old Omega got to the stage where the alarm would go off an nothing would stop it short of disconnecting the battery. Eventually it would sound randomly even when I was driving it.
VX dealer said it needed a new control box or whatever. But they were rarely right. Traded it in for my 9-5.
Good luck with the dealer. You may need to check further afield and get some second opinions but no doubt others will be along soon to provide further advice.

The 9-5 has several alarm sensors including break glass sensor. When these sensors go faulty the 'Alarm' message appears on the SID display. You can just clear it and continue. This is a common fault on the 9-5, I have a couple of sensors that work very intermittetly and I'vebeen clearing the SID display for a couple of years!
You can also get the 'Alarm' message on the SID if you lock the car twice quickly in sucession, putting the deadlocks on. try pausing between the two key presses, somethimes it helps.

Could be a choice of 2 common issues.
Tilt sensor, or the alarm unit batteries.
To eliminate the tilt sensor being at fault, when you take key out, press the night panel button, sid will display a message, this turns the interior sensors off.
If alarm still goes off, probably the unit batteries.

hi, have the same problem. took it to swss in cardiff- those guys are great! immediately said it was probably the tilt sensor- cleaned it and no more problems. (until now- 6 months later.) looks like the same problem, if so, easily fixed, but good to know about the possible battery problem.
