looks like my 95 Aero estate is going to be written off :-(

people carrier broad sided me at 30-40 on Saturday. It's made a hell of a mess. I can't believe how little the dealer reckons it's worth.
Yeah, but what mess might you have been in if you hadn't been in a 9-5.....??
I'm afraid the value's of them are now pretty poor, and that any significant damage will result in them being written off.
one of the reasons I bought it was for the excellent safety reputation, ferrying around the 2 kids, one of whom is very disabled. Although the car is a mess from the outside, the doors on my side have literally been cut in half, the car did a fine job of protecting me. I will def but another if they write if off (and if they give me enough money to buy one).
I was going to pick up my disabled daughter and had she been in the car I'm not sure she would have survived. The impact was on the side of her car seat and she has no head control so I'd imagine her head would have taken quite a bang.
I know it's just a car, but it's just such a waste and I'd just spent 1K getting her in shape. I know they are cheap to buy, which was why I bought one (only had it 6 months), but they are not as cheap as the dealer reckons.

If you have uninsured loss cover you might be able to claim enough extra to make up the difference - and a little more assuming blame can be attributed to the other party.
As for the cost of replacement, the dealers do tend to be a little optimistic with their sales prices I reckon. But that is all part of the pitch.
The PH classifieds had a couple available a few weeks ago.
I presume you are OK? Sounds like a nasty one. Makes me quite glad to have mine, despite the depreciation. I still hope I never have to find out how safe it is though.

Sounds horrible but glad that you seem to be alright, though probably shocked.
The safety profile of the 9-5 was high up on my list of priorities in choosing an estate car - one of the safest cars in the world I believe - and roads can be dangerous places because of the 'other person'. I'm not being sick when I ask this, but it would be interesting if you could post up a picture of the car to see how well it faired. I expect a lesser car may not have protected occupants so well.
I don't know what your budget is for a replacement 9-5, but there are some good deals out there if you hunt around for them. These cars stand up to wear and tear very well too in my experience, but I would avoid one that has between 70-100,000 miles unless it has had the timing chain done, history of the turbo can be ascertained, and no oil leaks from the head gasket (all from experience).
I'm getting a 6 month old 9-5 Aero estate later this week (and getting pillaried for its Dame Edna looks in 'General Gassing')- but I know how good these cars are as an all round package, plus it has £11.5K off list price for a 6 month old car (making the depreciation work for me!). I hope that I have made the right decision, and your experience with surviving a nasty incident only reinforces that I have.
Hope all comes good for you and that you can put it all behind you.

I will post some pics, buy want to wait until the insurance is all sorted first. The car stood up very well indeed.
that sounds like a good deal on your new car, where did you get it from ?.

Now there's a story. Was going to get it from Pentagon Saab in Oldham. Problem was, when the car arrived it was obvious to me that it had not been well looked after at all. I also found that the sat nav in it was rather quirky and in a very low down position. I therefore lost my deposit on it and bought a Lexus instead. The Saab 9-5 is a very nice car, it was just that this one did not do it for me when I saw it. There really are some good deals out there, dealers are finding it hard to shift them. An all new 9-5 may be released towards the end of 2007 too which put me off getting a nearly new one now because of the inevitable accelerated depreciation.
If you are looking for a newish 9-5 though, I can share my research with you as to where the keenest deals were that I found.

Though the women who crashed into me is now claiming for whiplash which has reall p!ssed me off.
She crashed into you right? Is she claiming against you for the whiplash? How does that work then?
Can't you counter claim for something else?
Mrs. LongQ had a battle some years ago after an incident at a T junction in rush hour traffic. The damage was not too bad but the other driver, who was clearly at fault, claimed something different and for some unexplained reason the numpty behind Mrs. LQ decided to support him with a witness statement. Unfortunately with minor damage (but a few hundred quid's worth to repair) the Ins. Co. just wanted to settle.
We objected and sent in photographic evidence about the junction. Eventually our people realised they had a case and things dragged on for about 18 months until a final settlement was reached. Nothing to do with whiplash but just goes to show how perseverence can affect the outcome. In the end, just to close the case, the other guy accepted 90% blame rather than 0% blame.
I would have thought an insurer would want extensive proof of whiplash these days. Is that not the case?
Forgot to add ....
Price wise there are some cracking deals on new Saabs at the moment as GM have decided to go for volume. That is not helping residuals at all so the pressure should be felt all the way down the ages even more than it was previously.
Not at all good for me, especially as I am not doing anything like the mileage I thought I would be covering. But should work in your favour I think.
