Well Saturday (two hours before a wedding, deepest joy) the bargain 9000 turned into the bastard 9000

Clutch, or something in the clutch system has gone.

Pedal goes to the floor with no resistance.

Presume this means new clutch?

Had it recovered to a garage in Swindon (the garage associated with the recovery service) and they dropped me off. Tuesday they're going to call with a price, I'm standing by with the KY.

Any guesses whats gone and average cost of replacing the clutch if its the whole clutch thats gone.

Its a 2.0i non turbo, 1996.

Just shy of £700 at an independent (but including new slave cylinder) for my '97 9000 Aero. Parts, including slave, are only half that though, so you may get away with less.

Scrapper/ebay it is if its that much, the whole car was only £700 (though I now of course realise why!)

Yeah just read about that on another Saab forum.

Fingers crossed.

I found that 9000 clutches lasted 90k, so every 90k multiple I got them changed anyway, inspection proved a good guess evertime.
The Viggen, hummm less than 50k, brakes 30k not 60k as the 9000's, a bit more expensive to keep up to scratch.

turbo clutches are double the price of n/a
a clutch for yours will cost about £70 (for the kit)
but most likely prob is the flexyhose ..they are only about 30
bit fiddly to fit tho and its a pain bleeding them

look on the forums for the technique ...best is www.saabscene.com (its the techy one )

good luck...

Not as bad as I expected.

Apparently Master Cylinder isnt pumping any fluid.

£246 all in

Its getting done now, so it stays!

Hurrah!

(Now waits for tales of the problem being shifted down the hydraulic system...)

Unfortunately the problem does tend to work its way through the system. Both cylinders seem to fail close to each other. As Ylee says, the pipe can go, Been several discussions on SAABScene recently - seems to be a spate of clutches going.

Might be an idea, after installing the new master cylinder to flush new fluid through the whole system to get rid of any detritis.
