I'm looking into buying a 93 2.2D. My overall concern with SAAB is understanding the running cost so any advice would be appreciated.

Secondly the model I have seen has 119K on the clock. Although FSH I am still concerned, anything I should look out for with such high mileage

Cheers

I'm no expert on oil-burners, but I do seem to recall comment on here and on Saab forums that the 2.2 is not the best of the Saab Diesels - the 1.9 is?

Thanks for the reply.

Been through Forum and see other recomendations for 1.9. Also I see that the most likely problem you will get is the Air Mass Meter failing.

Plenty to think about

Closely followed by diesel injection pumps - especially if the car has been 'chipped' at some point.

Thing is, you're pretty much stuck with the (Opel/Isuzu) 2.2 TiD if you want a diesel Saab in that price bracket - the Fiat/Alfa 1.9 lumps didn't come until MY 05 I think. You might want to look at the 9-5 3.0 TiD V6 (not a great engine for its displacement and cylinder count, but easily better than the 2.2) or a low pressure turbo petrol engine that's been converted to LPG.
