Moving to Hereford next week, would be interested if anyone has an opinion on a local(ish) independent specialist who could look after my 9-5 SE Airflow.

Has to be West Midlands Saab Specialists in Erdington - they have been looking after my T16S for the last 2 years and know their stuff.

i diagree..i went to the one in erdington and they were a rip off

by far and this is serious..by far the best indi saab specialist is the one called Bagnall Saab, located in woodfield road, birmingham. 01214401555

i went there about 6 months ago and have been going ever since..I am amazed by how nice they are there..coupled with very cheap repairs. the director there, Ray knows his stuff. He also amazingly fixes my car right there and then, last time i went there, he started my work at 6pm, as i needed the car for work the next day, and he even wavered the price down for me..top bloke!

He fixes the car the same day you bring it in..and was amazed by the cost..I had a new waterpump and was amazed the whole thing cost me just 70£, the one in erdington thought my timing belt was brokenw and quoted me over 1000£

k321 - I know Stuart Paul and John very well and they are all ex-main dealer staff. Their pricing is very good and they have all the Tech-II equipment as well as up to the minute training. They're friendly, knowledgeable, and as honest as the day is long.

I have never seen or heard a bad thing said about WMSS from anybody and on the web where bad news travels that is some accolade.

I've been using them for 2 years, my brother 4, and my dad since Paul was the service manager at Eachelhurst in the early 90s.

nicecupoftea-...well i went there..it took me about 30 mins to find the place as its behind some industrial place..i got there and they thought my timing belt broke and quoted me 1000£..i did have my boxster with me, and not the saab..so maybe they couldnt diagnose the fault based on my analsysis, but what got me frustrated was that the earliest they could see the car was a week away..whereas Ray at Bagnall, saw my car straightaway..and everytime i have had to go since, he fixes the car the same day i take it in, with no advanced warning when i will show up, amazing stuff!

its nice to know there are TWO nice indie saab specialists in Birmingham

Much better than the rich off merchants at the main dealer garage i used for my car till it reached the 120k mark

Not really fair to criticise their spot diagnosis when they didn't even see the car! Maybe they just gave you a "worst case scenario"? I see you have a 9-3 vert from your pic - IIRC they all timing chains which generally do big miles before they start rattling and need changing.

Sadly they are often booked up a long way in advance - I think they are victims of their own success. I have to plan my servicing visits a month in advance as I live in the SE. Currently looking for another technician I think.

Sorry you felt disappointed - maybe give them a go again sometime, they really are very good!

(Not on the payroll , but the first garage I have ever trusted fully and they always do a spot on job for me!)

Guess where i was this morning?...

Ok - WMSS in Erdington.

Right, i have used 4 specialists since buying my saab. A couple were cheaper than WMSS but overall WMSS are the best i have used. When i moved to Coventry i joined the local owners club and said i was looking for a garage that wouldn't just tell me to change stuff for the hell of it or to make themselves money as i attempt to run my car on a very limited student budget.

All the work i have had done by WMSS has been top notch and i never have any reason to doubt their judgement or complain about any part of their service. They always talk over what will need to be done and when picking the car up discuss what has been done. Stuart, Paul and Jon are all good lads as is their very efficient and courteous apprentice/dogsbody matthew - always washes the car and generally will do all he can to help.

You're right - they are snowed under with work but i think its getting better. This is only beacuse of their popularity which can only be a good thing in my book. As what i'd call a valued customer (i'd better be by now after all the recent spends!) they know me by name and even remember what work they did to my car previously. Also if push comes to shove you usually can see them at short notice (though not normally if its likely to be a long job). I reckon if you had a journey that depended on your car they'd either fit it in or supply a courtesy car. Last month my alarm went haywire meaning that i couldn't indicate without it arming and i phoned on a fri and took the car down on the Sat morning where Paul disconnected the alarm curing the problem until i could get it fixed under warranty. All free of charge.

Today i took the car down to diagnose a problem and after going for a drive with stuart and putting it up on the ramps it was diagnosed and a quote for the work supplied. All this took the best part of 20-25 mins and guess what - no charge.

I know they have customers that come down from Glasgow etc so they really are respected. I have a feeling that even though i will likely move away from the area my car will still go there for work in the future...

i would never pay for a charge for a quote, the one in bagnall does that too then knocks down the price

wmss maybe good but when i was there they seemed uninterested in fixing my car
