Hi,
Can any one help with a little advise please.
What are the pro's and con's of these two engines. I am looking at getting a 93 & there seem to be more 2.2 vectors around in my price range than there are 1.9's. Is it an older/rougher engine? Am I better sticking to the 1.9?
Any advice will be welcome.

Pete

Go for the 1.9 which is the Alfa/Fiat JTD Multijet, a fine machine as diesels go. The 2.2 is the rough old Vauxhall mill, only go there when you're a closet John Deere fan who doesn't mind topping up with oil every so often.

The 2.2's can also be unreliable too

Hej !

The answer is simple, go for the 1.9 TiD 16 valve.
Higher power, lower fuel consumption, smoother running engine.
Simply put, a better engine.
I know, I work for Saab, know "everything" there is to know about Saab engines and engine management.

Currently I'm driving a 9-5 M/06 1.9 TiD 150 bhp. However, I will replace it next week. BioPower !

Have driven a couple of the 1.9 motors in Vauxhalls. The first was a 120bhp in a Vectra with 10K on the clock and it was a very impressive car.

The 2nd was a 150bhp in an Astra with only 6K on the clock and I found it dissapointing. Having said that I was told by someone closely associated with Vauxhall that their engines really only loosen up fully at 9K miles. Something that I am hoping is true with our VXR.

One of my neighbours has a 1.9 as a company car. Has clocked up about 18k (just had the service) in 4 or 5 months. There was a recall for something related to the engine. No big deal but worth knowing if any vehicle you buy has been checked and updated if it was affected.

Also just recently something to do with rear hubs or bearings (can't remember exactly what he told me.) Again no big deal but may be worth finding out if the check has been done.

Seems there are a lot of recalls around at the moment. Just got a 1 year old Toyota Corolla for Mrs. LongQ and we are waiting to hear if it is one that is subject to a brake disk check recall ...

Do you think you'll manage to keep it that long?

Hi,

I've got a 93 2.2TiD. It is an old Isuzu van/truck engine I believe, and it shows. I have not had any real problem with the engine (new air mass meter under warranty). The later 2.2 (post 2001 I think) are much better than the early ones (like mine), but get a 1.9 if you can.
