Hi All,

I've heard good things recently about the replacement rear anti roll-bar for the 9-3 sold by Elkparts.

has anyone got one fitted and does it make as big a difference as the reviews on the Elkparts site suggests (never quite sure whether to believe site reviews....)

Cheers

Kelvin

No actual experience as I indulge in pre-GM Saabs mostly, but everything I've heard indicates uprating the rear bar is indeed the right way to go for making the 900/9-3 series go around corners. A fellow track/performance Saab nut used to do consistent 9 mins flat Nordschleife runs with a '99 9-3 (on 15" Bridgestones no less!) that baiscally had a good spring/shock combo and the uprated rear bar (his was from SAS - www.sasab.com - I think) as well as some engine mods. Mind you that he's a confirmed track nutter who spent countless hours at the 'Ring during the six years he was statinoed in Germany, and his driving style was pretty close to the edge...

if your car is standard i would not bother !
finding the rear end a little skitish i would lower first with a decent wheel combo (17s too big will ride like poo)
a wide 16 with a 215 will make it a real weapon!
the money on the roll bar is beter spent on poly bushing the front end and some more bracing
cheers rik
p.s whats your ride got sorry if its got 17s

The car is a 2000 SE on standard 16"s. Must admit, you're the first person I've come across who has said don't bother.

Happy with the 16's, not looking to change the looks at all. It was just from all the threads etc I've read, the new rear roll bar was deemed a good first upgrade (being cheap and easy)

Well, replaced it at the weekend and I must say, it's made a nice difference to the car. Cornering is improved as is ride, funnily enough. For just over 100 quid, I'd say it's a good upgrade. Easy enough to fix as well.

The new Aero steering whell is a touch nicer than the standard SE one as well.

Did you do this yourself or did you get it fitted for this price? If so where from?

Put it on myself, took about 30 minutes all told. Not hard, just needs nimble fingers.

Impressive - usually takes me 30 minutes to get all the tools needed to start the job alone, and then I lose at least another hour or finding out where I dropped stuff when working under the car.

Ramps not good if you have the aero kit.

I did mine whilst it was sitting on the ground, you just need to be able to wriggle a bit and have good fingers.

I'm sure a local garage would only charge half an hours labour to do it though.

I have a 9-3 Aero Hot so maybe ramps would not be good either, was just going to drive it onto a couple of paving slabs to up the height at the back, I guess it must be quite clearly visible then to take out and put the new one on?

Yeah, comes with an instruction sheet and it's quite easy to follow.
