Hi guys,

I'm considering buying a 1998 Saab 9-3 2.3i s.

Is there anything I need to look out for with this car? (Especially if fairly high mileage.)

What sort of BHP does it kick out? And what sort of MPG can I expect?

Cheers,

Dave.

Timing chain springs to mind. Saab Information Display losing pixels. Otherwise, normal wear 'n tear stuff.

And one more thing!

N/a or turbo?

2.3i is an N/A, 't would be a t or T, instead of an i, otherwise. The only turbo'ed 2.3 in the 9-3 range is the Viggen anyways...

As much as I'd like to I doubt i'd stretch to getting a Viggen or a Hot as I'm looking for a daily run about to purchase for minimum cash yet be reliable.

Cheers for the info.

My brother has a 900 2.3. Nice relaxed cruiser, bags of torque. Actually quite swift if you push it and makes a nice noise! Not very tuneable though.

Ran a 9-3 2.3i for 7 years, changed it last year. During that time the only thing that needed replacing other than normal wear & tear exhaust, tyres was during the last 6mnths of ownership. Front shocks, discs and pads.

Sorry to see it go really, but it got replaced by 9-3SS 2.0t, which we absolutely adore, a totally different beast from the NG9-3, but STILL a true Saab.

So would you guys recommend a Turbo instead? Would that get better MPG when driven sparingly?

Is the 2.3 a four pot?

My brother's 2.3 NA 900S gets 35mpg on the motorway at about 75-80mph which I though was pretty good. Not driven a turboed one, but I can't see it getting better mpg as you'd never be able to drive it sparingly

(yes it's a four pot)

Driving sparingly tends to be my problem.....especially if the car makes a nice noise!
