9-3 SE t Replacement Brakes
Discussion
Whilst the new beasty is going in for a fluid (brake and oil) change, I'm going to get the front discs and pads changed as well.
What're peoples opinions on the different options? Not looking at grooved or drilled, just plain old replacements.
Genuine Saab or Brembo (third the genuine price at elkparts) discs, *insert other make here* and same for pads.
Interested to hear opinions. Also braided hoses. Worth the effort?
Cheers

I can't help but if you find a solution that works can you let me know!! Mine stops like it's on custard most of the time!!!
the brakes on my 95 Aero estate don't feel as good as the ones on my Focus which surpised me. You seem to really have to step on them to stop, first ABS car though, not sure if that may be partly to blame, i.e. a different feel to the brakes.
I know the 95 is a heavier car, but it has discs all round as opposed to the disc and drums of the focus.

I think it is about feel. To me, Saab brakes seem very "proportional" - ie the harder you press the greater the effect (so a gentle depression is dramatically different from a hard shove). This seem true of both my wifes 1994 NG900i and my 2002 9-2 Aero Conv (although the Aero has much more powerful brakes) and is quite unlike my last car (Daimler) where the amount you pushed the pedal down was all that seemed to make a difference (ie no feel really)

The brembo discs are really good
good pads are frodo 2500,and the pagid ones
mintex 1144 are ok but avoid ebc greenstuff
do not seem to work with saabs...
Second the motition of Brembo discs with Ferode DS pads - which are meant to work with a plain (non-grooved) disc as it's a 'non-gassing' compound.
I'd also stay away from Greenstuff on these cars (although the current version seems to be better than the originals which are sometimes referred to as 'Brownstuff' in Saab circles... )
Interesting thread. What about EBC Redstuff pads with the slotted-dimpled discs? They look OK at under £200 for the front of a 9-5, so I was think about it so would welcome anyone's experience.
I have Black Diamond discs with Pagid pads on the back and they seem OK - but the Saab fronts do feel mushy when bringing a heavy car to a halt.

Interesting comments.
The 9-5 Aero estate I bought with 96k on the clock has superb brakes - probably the best I have ever had. I did notice that it had all new discs and pads when I took delivery but there has been no drop off in performance that I can tell since then. Which is particulalry good since it has the extra wear and tear of being an Auto.
On thing that interests me is what effect changing the braking system might have on the ESP system given that the brakes are used for more than simple braking.
Any ideas? Is the system effectively self adjusting or could the program be confused by altered braking capability?
