Got my car serviced a couple of weeks ago, but now the service indicator message has popped up on the SID. Considering that the indy I used has the manners and attitude of a psychotic killer (how do I find them?) - I am determined to just reset the service message myslef but can't remember how to do it. There's a guy on Eby selling the "secret", but I know I have seen it somewhere before.

Can the PH collective tell me how to do this please? Its a 1998 9-5 with the SID2.

Thanks
Bryan

A quick search gives this response from the good Prof Beard;

Sorted - it turn out to be a bit subtle:

Just pressing the clear button didn't work, even if done for minute!

Solution was:

Press clear button to clear "Time for Service" message, release, then press it again with no message showing. This resulted in the message "Cleared" after a few seconds, then, KEEP finger on button and, after a few more seconds, the message "Service" appeared. Job's a good 'un.

Yep, that was the answer on my 9-5. Just happened that I had the car serviced 12 months ago and thought it about due so got it done. The service indicator popped on about 2 weeks later - more or less a year IIRC from the date it was last done - so I guess the computer counts miles and days and alerts you as to whichever is reached first. Fortuntaely this info helped me reset everything without another trip to the grumpy Saab mechanic. ( I have a choice of 2 independent Saab mechanics near me and they both have personality disorders/psychotic tendencies ).

Hi

Have an 04 9-5 with a SID 2, how do I reset the service indicator? The write up seems to only clear all the mpg data etc, so I assume it is for a 9-3?

Any help appreciated.

Did you do EXACTLY what I said? If so, I guess you '04 model must be different, but I can't see why it works on other 9-5s.

As the Prof says, should work if followed to the letter.

Otherwise have a look on UK Saabs and ask over there. Someone is bound to be able to help you.

I have a Saab 2004 9-5 ARC. The method described will work if you leave out the one step. When the car is turned on with the key to get the 'Time for Service' message simply press and hold the clear key without releasing until the 'Cleared' meassage and 'Service' message has been displayed. The press and release of the clear before the press and hold does not work on my car.

I agree, basically turn car on, wait till 'time for service' warning, push and hold clear button till 'service' appears.

Mine is a SID 2 if that makes any difference to the original instructions, ie it has the alarm & trip computor (for what it is worth) as extra functions over the SID 1. However, at a previous main dealer service the extra functions disapeared, took it back and a technician reinstated the functions. He didn't say it in as many words, but I suspect that it is the same unit which can be upgraded with the use of an official Saab pc?

If so, that sort of blows my theory of the 2 different reset methods!

SAAB 9-3 2003 here, i am changing the oil more often than the schedule to try and avoid the "sludging up" they are known for and the first method:-

clear once then hold button again until reset, then service appear worked perfectly for me

SID1 and 2 have different buttons on the front, so are not the same unit. 1 has a pair of arrows to cycle through the options, whilst 2 has one button for the first 4 displays and a second for the other 4.

Replaced my 9-5 about 9 months ago.

Can't remember button configuration, but I di clearly remember in the user manual that the difference between the SID 1 & 2 was a few available functions, as on elier post, these disapeared during a service, but the garage got them back by simply plugging in the lap top.

Maybe the different buttons are related to the age? Mine was a 3.0 TiD 04 Vector
