Aaarrggghh, car dealers who bend the truth
Discussion
I don't want much, just a truthful description of the car before i get the money out the bank to purchase a car.
Thought I'd found the one. The ad sounded good, the decription on the phone sounded good and the price I negotiated was excellent.
Dealer turned out to be a right one however. as soon as he heard the price I'd negotiated with his colleague it was short sharp hostile conversation time. When I asked for a test drive his reply was, "OK, but don't try and beat me down on price" errr, okay....
Wasn't too chuffed when I told him where to stick it, politely of course. Then mentioned the bald tyres, the B pillar trim falling off, the cracked fog lights, the blown bulbs, the lack of the upgraded stereo/speakers, the blank SID, etc etc etc. All on an 'immaculate' car.
Anyone know of any nice 9-3 SE Turbos without beige interiors in silver or black?
I'm losing the will to search now.

Usual things, keep an eye on the saabsites, autotrader, saab indys, etc.
When I was looking at 9-3s I had a nightmare trying to find the spec I wanted.
2.0 Turbo (185 / 210bhp)
3 door
SE spec
black, silver, or dark blue
dark leather interior
heated seats
not the crappy viking alloy wheels
cruise
bad enough finding the first four, they almost always came with a light coloured interior and rarely leather unless it had been specced (this on an SE 210bhp car!), NEVER with heated seats or cruise...
Got close on one car at a main dealer but suddenly came to in a cold sweat realising I was going to have to find nearly 3k on top of my trade in for a car with residuals that would drop like a stone as the 9-3ss was just about to come out...
Having said that, the tan interior has grown on me on the black/blue cars. Plus they are much cheaper now.
The top spec cars (Aero or SE Sport) are much more likely to be specced up.
What's the exact spec you're looking for?

Looking for an SE as well, pref LPT, black or silver, no beige interior, 5 door, not fussed about leather at all and about a 98 - 01 model year, with airflow sideskirts/bumper trim kit.
I'm sure there's one out there for me, was just having a little rant as the trader had really annoyed me!

Yes, I think you will be able to find that. Black cars tend to have tan interiors - I wanted black on black but rather rare - my current T16S has a dark interior and it is a little solemn. I have warmed to the lighter interior on black cars. Silver ones seem to have black interiors though.
Lots of LPTs had the airflow kit (although not many of the full turbos - weird), and 5 doors popular so I reckon you should be OK.
What's your budget?

Ah, missed that
OK :

Wrong colour I know, don't know about airflow kit, but the rest seems in order...
Ah, this one looks perfect :
"2000 SAAB 9-3 2.0 SE Turbo,
W reg. Silver, leather, alloys, alarm, tax & MoT, full service history, all electrics, Nokia phone system, a/con, excellent condition. £3,595. ono"
OK, sounds like it's the full turbo but I doubt it'll be much more to insure...

3 door and leather, but might be worth a look. Just been reduced as well as it's been in the trader a couple of weeks.
This one is interesting;
1999 SAAB 9-3 2.0T SE,
64000 miles, Black, 5 door, Manual 5 Speed, 2 owners. FSH, Leather Seats, Multi-Change CD, PAS, ABS, Alarm Immobiliser, Alloy Wheels, Climate Control, Factory Fitted Sun Roof. 6 months tax and MOT. Excellent Throughout.. £3,595
Air and sunroof. The Airflow kit isn't a deal breaker as it's only 300 quid or so from Elkparts and I have a tame spray monkey

Have you looked at 9-5s?
yeah, just a little concerned at the size.

That looks lovely
I think I would have a 9-5 over a 9-3. Not convinced they are that much bigger. My c900 is actually longer than a 9000, and I went to it from a Rover 25!
Only drawback is the loss of the hatch... Think you will get a better spec for your money though...
PS - I think the 2.3 LPT is a lovely cruiser, especially with that auto box! Tempted by a cheap one for a "family wagon"

I am quite tempted, but as you say, the loss of the hatch is a slight concern.

I thought so!!
Need to change the 'shark fin' rubber though as that's perished. Any idea if that's an easy task? Apart from that a few stone chips for my brother to sort out and I'm laughing. Even SID is fully pixelled up.
Elkparts sell replacement shark fin aerials so they can't be that hard to sort
