DI Cassette - anyone know about a recall?
Discussion
I have heard informally that therehas been a problem with fires starting in the engine bay of a couple of Saabs in the USA. Not sure which model this has happened with but imagine it is the older 9-3 and 9-5s, from 1998 on. I had my car serviced at a Saab indy last week and this cropped up in conversation. He thought that Saab may recall all 9-3/9-5s made after a particular date to replace the DI cassette free of charge.
I know this all sounds very vague. That is why I am asking the question - does anyone know anything more about these circumstances, a recall, and what would be necessary to get the replacement? If true, this must be costing a cash strapped GM alot of money!

Not heard of that one.
Have heard of US "classic" 9-3's catching fire though, but dont think it was the DI at fault.
The DI has been around for ages now, I would have thought all the probs have been ironed out by now. The old red T5 DI's used to have problems but not heard of any catastophic problems with the black T7 DI's.

I must have missed that first time around - interesting - I've had no recall on that for my car - was it only in the US?
How much does a DI cost?

From my experiences SAAB UK and its dealers do not do the recalls as they should, unless it is a real risk.
Quite simply if they can get away with it, they will. The change of ownership to GM has depreciated the marque.
Have a look at this page, its american, but public info is scarce.
