Extended warranty or not?
Discussion
It is a question of managing risk. If you have sufficient cash to cover a major problem then a warranty does not have as much benefit as if you are on a tight budget.
The porsche boys are constantly having this argument and it seems to come down to your attitude to risk.
What does the warranty cover? with the porsche boys the main concern is the rms which seems to be a regular claim of 3k plus upto a new engine at 9k, for a cost of c£750pa

The Aero was an "approved used car" - ie it came with a years full warranty. That runs out at the end of Feb. Question - should I go for extended warranty (£600+) or not? The car has done 41K.
Well, if things do go wrong they are likely to be expensive. Mine came with the warranty as well - 1yr or 20k miles - which was good with 96k on the clock!
Had I done 20k the £600 may well have been worth it especially since it included AA cover but my usage has been much less then I thought it might be - only about 8k in the year - so less chance of needing the warranty.
I did get a letter re renewal for another year - which I may have taken - but I'm over the 100k mark so no chance of cover. Which is sad since something in the engibne bay sounds much louder than before the olast service and I have a small water loss which has so far defied diagnosis other than the possibility of a small weep from the water pump.
As and when that develops I expect it might cost the £600
Just spent the same amount of money on the wife's Xsara - which has probably doubled its value! On the other hand it is probable that we got the cam belt change in just in time as the rubber insert in the main pulley had twisted out of position. I thought it felt a bit flat last time I drove it but assumed it was down to age and the need for a service. I guess it was ...
