Went to check the tyre pressures on my car. The wheels and tyres fitted are Saab 17 " Viggen 5 spoke alloys with 215/45 R 15 Z tyres - which aren't listed in the handbook or on the Saab list alongside the local garage's tyre pump.

Anyone else got a similar set-up and - if so -what tyre pressure(s) do you use ?

Hang on, shouldn't the tyres be R17? I thought the number after the "R" was the size of the wheel? SO if they are 17" alloys they will be R17...

I think...

I have the 17" double 3 spoke (ALU36) :

wheels on the 9-3 Aero conv.

It has Michelin Pilot Sports (215/45 ZR 17) on it. On the Aero, 17" wheels come as standard - the owners manual recommends 33lbs/sq in as pressures. It seems fine to me

from the handbook (back page)

215/45 R 17 Z

weight mph Front rear

1-3 pers 0-120 2.2/32 2.0/29
1-5 pers 0-120 2.2/32 2.0/29
1-5 pers 120- 2.9/42 2.7/39

Personally I find that it depends on tyre manufacturer, how fast you drive, where you drive and the weather.
2.2bar /32 psi is a good average pressure all round
2.4 bar at the front for fast motorway, (errr that should read autobahn)

If you drive like a nutter and throw it round high speed corners 2.5 in the dry 2.7 in the wet. Harder compound tyre lose a 0.1/0.2bar.

buy yourself a tyre gauge and foot pump and experiment to your style of driving, just remember that the pressures quoted are for a cold tyre.

225/45 R17W on the 9-5 wagon and I keep them at 32psi all round.
