One for Matt_FP, perhaps...

I think I pushed the envelope of the standard (late) 9000 brakes on my classic 900, even equipped with Ferodo DS 3000 pads, last weekend at Zandvoort. :o It as probably the braking for the Tarzan curve from near 220 km/h on the straight that made them smoke like a chain smoker who's had to endure Bruciebabes rants for too long after only three laps. Later on in the track session, I felt a distinct wobble under hard braking at the same spot. The brakes did/do feel perfectly alright, otherwise.

So - time for another brake upgrade? Problem is, I don't want to lose my deep-dished 16" Aero wheels, which offer precious little clearance for big brake callipers. That, and I am sadly not made of money. Oh, and I don't feel like adding tons of unsprung weight either. Easy to please, aren't I? :D

Any suggestions?

Oh, car sports near 300 bhp, and weighs about 1,200 kgs.

Always used 9000 brakes etc. on our classic 900's. Fine for the max. 200bhp but I wouldn't want them for 300bhp.
You really need at least a 4 pot caliper, but I don't know any that will fit behind your wheels. But I know that Tarox do a "junior" kit for 205's & other small hatches, so worth checking on their website.
I know Abbott Racing will have some ideas, but unlikey to be cheap!

If anyones interested, I have a set of older style (1994) 16" Aero wheels, which were from one of my 9000 Aero's.
The rears have had the offset reduced (Abbott Racing did this) so as not to scrape on the rear arches of the lowered 900 that they were subsequently fitted to.
They have very good Michelin Pilot Exalto 195/50/16 tyres on them.
The only classic 900 we currently have is a mint Monte Carlo edition cab.
My plan was to have them refurbished as the lacquer is peeling a bit and fit them to this.
However, we want to keep the M/Carlo original. So I would be happy to sell them to a fellow enthusiast.
Let me know if your interested.
Tom.

Eric,

We can make something up for you using either AP or Alcon calipers. The Brembo's I used on F900 were bloody good but you can't get GT calipers anymore unless you buy them as part of a Brembo Brake Kit.

Give me a shout if your interested and I'll do you a quote. I'd also need a few measurements such as how much clearance between inner face of allow and caliper etc.

Cheers
Matt

I understand which way you want to go on this but did you check that the rear brakes were performing adequately during the session?

The reason I ask is that my wife mentioned some problems with the brakes on her Citroen Xsara and when I took it for a spin I was quite surprised to get very early severe brake fade after just two on the road application and, not too far into the test, a serious about of smoke from the front pads as well. This on the road! People must have wondered what was going on.

Turns out the rear disks and pads were completely trashed (I think there may have been, possibly still is, a problem with a brake balance valve and the brakes could be binding) so the fornts were doing all the work. But it was not very obvious when driving the car until the brakes were asked to do some serious work.

Like I said, I could be a long way off target but it might be worth checking the fore and aft balance if you have not already done so.
