Re Title really in the thread previous it was stated it was important to warm up/cool down the turbo. I always let the car idle prior to turning off but not idle prior to setting off. I always thought that engine wear in general was greatest when cold and you should not leave the car idleing but drive gently to warm up the oil etc.

Open to discussion really !

Start up and drive normally (ie don't thrash it) until the temp guage has warmed up. As for shutting down, well unless you've been booting it just switch off like a normal car. I've never had any turbo problems.

Older oil-cooled turbos are more susceptible to this as I understand it.

Personally I let the engine idle for 30 secs before driving off if I can, and 30 secs again when I get where I'm going. I tend to drive gently for the first few minutes and the last minute or two. No need to go silly but I think it helps

Agree with all the above advice for just about any car. I did check for the Aero when I picked the car up and was told that idling before switching off was not required. That said I usually leave the engine of any car running for a few seconds after coming to a standstill and likewise take it very easy with a cold engine for the first minute or two - low speed manoeuvres are quit possible at tickover with an auto - and then keep under 2000 revs but preferably over 1000 until the temp guage is well into the operating temperature range. Mind you that is still pretty fast in road speed terms if the auto is in top gear!

Of course one still has plenty of entertainment weaving from side to side to warm the tyres and frightening people behind with the high level brakelight trying to get the brakes working at their proper temperature.

The drivers manual for my 02 Aero Convertible (Auto) advises letting the engine idle before driving off and before switching off. I usually do 30secs or so each end of a journey

Thanks for the replies, sorry for not replying sooner but had a couple of days off playing golf!!

Well attending anyway!

It appears that common sense prevails it prob takes me 30 secs or so to get moving in the morning (setting up the ipod) before i move off and then as i said drive gently until warm and leave 30 secs or so before switch off. I hopefully then am not prematurely wearing the Turbo.

Thanks
Simon
