Bashed & Broken
Discussion
Last week (whilst traveling slowly to conserve petrol) I was T Boned by a Ford Focus. The result...O/Side doors mashed, I was also pushed into a road sign, mashing both the Passenger doors. 1 very broken (but drivable) Saab. I get 'the letter' today :weeping::weeping: The car is Uneconomical to repair.
It was a V6 95 Estate, with every bell & whistle I could wish for, as comfy as my front room and able to show TT Quatro's the 'way home'.
So what do I replace it with - I guess V6's are few and far between.

Well, the 02MY 9-5 Aero were, I was told and if mine is anything to go by, pretty fully equipped for the first few months after launch. Subsequently a few things reverted to options and so cannot be relied upon to be part of the spec.
They also come with 250bhp, pull like a train (mine's auto) and give 24mpg doing silly local short runs and 30+ on a proper run. Saw 33mpg using 97 octane fuel on one long day a couple of months ago. Not bad considering some waiting in queues and the climate control on all the time.
No sunroof and only a single slot CD (but a multi could be fitted easily) as standard. I got the dealer to throw in a load area net and fittings as part of the deal. The slide out load area floor would be nice - but it can be retro-fitted if any use to you.
May be more of them about than V6's ?

Was it "just" the doors that were damaged or did the footwells and roof get mashed as well?
Uneconomical to repair to an insurance company generaly means if costs more than £1 to repair and they don't want to fork out for your hire car costs while it is repaired.
I've recently had an RTA, made sure I had my car back and I'm now repairing it - after all it's only nuts and bolts at the end of the day.
That's bad luck Hope you are OK.
Worth bearing in mind are main dealer pricings - if you are really attached to it it might be worthwhile getting repair quotes from independant specialists. Likely they will be much less maybe meaning it's not written off.
Don't know much about the V6s, but would imagine the Aero will have the full spec. Is there a 9-5 Griffin? If memory serves that would have V6 (maybe low-blow) and auto and have more toys than you could shake a stick at.
9-5s at crazy low prices these days, I'm sure you'll find something!

The Price was from an Independent (Insurance Co. preferred) Garage.
All four Doors would need replacing, N/S Sills, O/Rear Wheel Arch. I believe the quote was for <>5k
Engineer says car is worth 6.5k. I paid 9 for it 12months ago
Will Hold out for the Largest Chq Possible, whilst driving the Eurodrive POS they have given me
I have seen a couple of 95s on here, so will investigate further when the Chq is on its way.

May I suggest speaking to Andy @ Simply-Saab 01179406151. They regular rebuild smashed up Saabs & have the advantage of being able to use used parts, as they are one of the biggest U.K Saab breakers.
I have used them for years, for parts, repairs, service & buying used Saabs. First rate company.
Tom.
P.S Just replaced our 9-5 Aero est. with an 04 model. Seems fast, even after driving my HSV!

2k pa depreciation sounds about right to me until the thing is worth about 2 to 3 k when the rules change. Depreciation just about stops at the 1k mark until it becomes uneconomic to get it through an MOT.
Being 2.5 off on an insurance payout sounds better than one might expect - but I'd still stick out for a higher amount.
Well, yes - but the insurance payout shouldn't be the 'market value' if you were to sell it to the trade, but the amount one can buy an equivalent replacement for right now. After all, you're hardly choosing the moment when someone else decides to total your car, where one normally does plan when it's financially viable to replace ones car. In that light, 2.5K off the amount paid for the car 12 months ago seems to be a bit steep, unless the second hand market for this particular model has collapsed in the meantime...
