Why are there hardly any of these left on the road compared to 900s of a similar vintage? There are currently just 3 9000s for sale on eBay, one of which is a pre-facelift model, but it's a parts car at best.

My dad had a 1990 SE Turbo from new and we loved the car, so I'd love to find another at some stage, but judging by what's been available recently that isn't going to be easy!

Rust.
Broken timing chains.

Also these had a lot of tech inside them and a lot of that will have failed by now.

Just how many DI cassettes can one car get through ?

I worked at a dealer when they came out ,left in 1995 and some cars had some epic miles on them already

My Dad bought a C plate 9000 Turbo back in the day.

What a car it was back then, the pull in third gear was amazing.

The 900 is a very classic shape though, wouldn't mind a nice one of those.

I think that the earlier ones in particular don't have much appeal & are seen as just an old fashioned saloon/hatchback lump especially if non-turbo..
I actually had 2 Griffins (2.3 not V6) & loved them. Problems came with failed big ends (blocked strainer) & lots of accumulating issues including heaters, DI cassettes, electrical glitches & rust developing despite my best efforts. I think my cars would have been about £34,000 new back in `96-7 - they were possibly being produced at a loss. I bought them when about 12 yrs old & the monetary value had certainly gone by then!
I think there are some older Carlssons tucked away which might surface. Ther's a later CS for sale here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Saab-9000-2-0i-CS-1997-...
which was purchased for a bit less....
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Low-Millage-SAAB-9000-C...

Have a look over on UKsaabs & put in an appeal & you could be lucky.

reckon they're going to want to get rid.

Not even sure what spec it is ,not a turbo ,can't even remember what year ,could be a 91 ish.

There as quite a nice looking red one somewhere down in the West country that has been advertised on and off for quite a while. I don't know if it sold or not, but it may come back again. It is still in my browser history in fact - https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1075658.

OP are you after a 9000 or has it to be an early 9000? I've been driving these for flipping ages and love them. Spares seem cheap enough and reliability has never been an issue. Early cars did have some issues. My current one is on 206k miles or similar and I've never seen another car that can tick all the boxes.

I have a 9000 aero with the manual box, it has 3 inch down pipe, updated ecu and a few other bits and bobs done to it, if it wasn't for the body and rust it would be still on the road today.

This big old girl embarrassed many a newer hot hatch, spins the front wheels in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th gear, is as comfortable inside as your favourite armchair at home and can be a poodle or a rottweiler depending on you right foot and your mood!

Even project ones are getting harder to find with prices climbing, my own will donate its engine to a Scimitar GTE project and everything else including boxes of spares will go to somebody who is lucky enough to still have and wants to keep one on the road.

I have a 300c 5.7 hemi and this old Saab 9000 aero would certainly give it a bloody good run for the money!

Saw an early car back in October....in middle of nowhere village in Italy.

Hardly ever see pre CS type 9000s now.

That's super cool. I much prefer the look of the pre-CS cars.

Ours was a 1990 SE Turbo, that shape but with the wire alloys (for want of a better term; I do have the brochure kicking around somewhere). Blue over blue leather. G732 TTS, if anyone ever spots it in a scrapyard or looking sorry for itself elsewhere.

Has to be the right engine for that conversion. Not sure if it's the 9000 engine, it may be a GM engine they use. It's very easy from a wiring perspective and the ecu runs with knock sensors and APC.

Quoting myself, but this car is still for sale.

Looks nice, but it's been for sale for well over a year now so clearly the market is just not there (or it's hiding horrors).
