Fog lights ...... damaged ones.
Discussion
Didn't hear a thing but at some point, I assume yesterday as I have not noticed anything previously, something has punched a hole in the o/s fog light of my 9-5 Aero.
I'm thinking it looks expensive, especially from a dealer though as yet I have not checked prices.
Anyone know how much?
Any reliable alternative sources? (2002 MY if that makes any difference.)
How complicated to fit?
Does anyone know of any protective covers or applications that could prevent a re-occurrence?

Hi mate,
The place that did my clutch wanted £65 for a front fog light I think they are £85 at a Saab dealer.
I've just found one for £55 in the eurocarparts catalogue, not sure if they have a website try www.eurocarparts.com.
You would have to add fitting to that though.
Thier nationwide order number is 0870 150 6506.

Cheers for that dug. Somehow missed the post earlier - sure I checked though. Must be age.
And thanks siwil1. Good input. I will have to dig around and see what I can come up with.
That it doesn't work worries me not at all but the thing looks a mess and the glass will surely drop out at some point so I think best to get it fixed.
Seems to be accessible as well so self fit an easy option if I can scrounge some ramps or perhaps talk to my local tame car odd job people.
Thanks guys.

RAMPS!!!!!
lay on the floor like I did
Well, I would and I used to do stuff like that but age and a recent shoulder injury make that a little trick these days.
I would also need to reduce weight to about 3 kg to squeeze under the front airdam!
I think a ramp is a better bet.
Best price so far seems to be £55 plus VAT plus shipping. Think I will check with the dealer on Monday and see what they can do. More convenient if it is sorted as part of the upcoming annual service.
I'll keep looking though.
Try www.smply-saab.com 01179406151 for a great service & rock bottom prices on new/used parts + servicing etc.
I have used them for about 7 years now for our Saabs ( currently own 95 Aero est. & Classic 900 cab.T16s, previous Saabs inc. T16s,2xClassic 900 2.0lpt(Aero bodied) 9000cse 2.0lpt 2x 9000 Aero's. Most of which were modified by Abbott Racing.

Thanks for the introduction.
I phoned and sure enough they have the item on stock and at almost the best price I have seen as far as I can tell. (Though still not a cheap item. )
The only down side is that I am not near Bristol so add carriage and the price creeps up somewhat. One of the local specialists where I am will do it fitted for just a little more. Wonder what the dealer wants for the job. Must call and find out.
Certainly sounds like they know their Saabs though so were I in the Bristol area I would undoubtedly be heading their way for my servicing if I chose to go independent rather than dealer.

LongQ, don't know where you are based, but if anywhere near the Midlands try West Midlands Saab.
East Midlands, so West Midlands possible.
Just nbooked it in for an annual service with the supplying agent (in case there are any jobs that need to be done covered by the Saab warranty) and enquired the official price of a new foglight. Fitted, VAT and all sorted. 127 quid apparently.
My best offer so far from a local independent was 89 quid all in.
However, if I can find a supply of genuine Saab units at 55 quid a pop the Saab dealer is interested ....!
Dredging up the past ....
Left this most of last year on the basis that with my luck I'd fit a new one and something would smash it. Also was looking for some form of protective option but have found nothing so far.
Anyway, before Xmas picked up a replacement for a reasonable price from on of the independant parts suppliers. Looked OK. Finally got around to popping along to somewhere with a ramp to get it fitted (easier than my sloping drive when you have no idea how it is mounted) and took tyhe old one off - eventually. One nut was solidly attached to the captive bolt.
Then realised that the replacement looked very similar but was not - different mounting point positions and one completely different method of mounting. Checkled the Valeo part numbers. Different.
Took it back and got a refund but they could not supply the correct one other than by special order at full price as they didn't stock it.
I was about to give up after a couple more searches and go to the dealer when I found PartsforSaabs. From the online catalogue I could see they listed the part with the correct Valeo part number and at a sensible price. Place the order. It arrived a little under 2 days later and I was able to get it fitted the same day. Even the old bulb worked, despite months of exposure to the elements.
A good result imo and full credit to the people at PFS for stocking genuine parts at sensible prices and shipping them promptly.
Now I'm wondering what else to get.
Is the BSR tuning stuff any good?

I think so - your tuning choices are BSR, Maptun and Speedparts I think. Or are Speedparts and BSR the same?
I don't know, better wait for somebody with a more modern Saab to come along!
I might also add that www.elkparts.co.uk offer a similar service to PFS and are equally good! I think they are the official importer for Swedish Speedparts stuff.

Thanks for that info.
I did look at Elk before but the prices for the fog lights were, and still are, more than the dealer was asking! (Just). PFS price was less by a significant amount.
That said if I needed a new set of 4 alloys Elk would look like the place to go. If I needed one alloy ... hmm, depends whether Elk split the sets of 4 and what price they charge. If I needed a new exhaust there is nothing really in it on price - though how there can be so many options for a relatively low volume vehicle I can't imagine! New Xenon headlight unit (Ouch! hope that never becomes a requirment) again not much in it.
So I guess the answer is simply to compare at the time of need and see if there are any deals going.
Now, back to performance stuff. I wonder how much punishment the auto box will take ...?
