Picking up my 9-5 Aero HOT (a manual estate, the exact combination I've wanted for ages!) on Sunday. It has 12 months' MOT and a full history, which is good.

However, it also has a noisy alternator and it has a note on the last MOT sheet for a wheel sensor ring.

How imminently do I need to get these looked at and how expensive are they going to be to fix?

The car's only costing me 500 quid so I don't mind chucking a couple hundred more at it to get it tip top.

Does the ABS light stay on? If it goes out once the car is started I'd be surprised if there is a sensor ring problem. If it's a rear wheel, the ABS sensor is in the bearing / hub assembly.

That's what the garage (Saab indie) told me.

I get a pulsing in the pedal when braking at low speeds.

If your indie has a Tech II he should be able to pinpoint which ABS sensor is playing up.

Pulsing at low speed is a abs ring. Couple of quid to sort providing you have tools.

The alternator on a 9-5 is a time consuming job. It comes out from underneath meaning the offside driveshaft has to come out and the exhaust needs unbolting to move sideways.
I did mine yesterday and wouldn't like to do it without access to a lift.

That'll explain my £300 bill then!

They told me when they did it that mine has the short cambelt on it as well - worth getting that swapped next time I need engine work doing?
