Sympathies. 'Things' only fail when you come to use them I find. They seem to have a knack of knowing when that will make life difficult - tho' I did once find a Vauxhall dealer fully operational on an Easter BH when the car very nearly failed on the way to a holiday week.
Still, day nearly over now.
Mrs. LongQ's Xsara sprang a fuel leak on Friday. Fuel filter. Common I am told. She needs the thing tomorrow so I had to rush around and get a replacement and then get it fitted on Saturday AM. With one thing and another that was one of the weekend days gone ...

In 14 months it has had a Turbo a head gasket 2 tyres a service and a clutch for about £4k, the next owner will be getting a great car that has had everything done to it.

It seems that clutch work can be pricey these days. Mrs. LongQ's Xsara has something not right in the clutch department - might just be the cable but I doubt it. I seem to recall asking the question about costs once and getting a figure of over £400. ABout half the value of the car. All the value if I took the tyres off.
My local odd-job tyre and exhaust chain who do servicing would have done a deal for me - except they no longer do clutches. Too much aggro on modern designs I suspect.
The Aero has a warranty until September - better start making things fail ...

Hmm.
I think I would want to see the old clutch in case the original diagnosis was, shall we say, a bit premature.
In my experience clutches, road use ones anyway, tend to give good notice that they are on the way out and will, despite burning smells if you push them hard, last quite a while anyway. The one on the Xsara has been 'off' for about 18 months as I recall!
However, a slave cylinder giving out could easily lead to a more 'sudden' failure. Just seems odd that it should be identified just when they are trying to put it all back together. Presumably this problem was what stopped them completing the work yesterday (or whenever it was originally scheduled)?
It's not that I don't trust garages. But I have had a number of enlightening experiences over the years.
As a tame plumber said to me only this week.
"If you are a plumber of electrician you need to gain a recognised qualification and and have to be re-assessed/take retraining regularly and continually pay for registering the work you do with CORGI. Etc., etc.
If you start a garage - you don't have any of that. Anyone can do it and be legal."
Words to that effect anyway.
An interesting point to mull over I thought.

The clutch started slipping on full boost on the last Nottingham do on the run out when I was trying to keep up with James and Emma on the cat and fiddle.It gradually got worse and on tuesday when I took it to the Garage it would hardly move at all.When they started it on wednesday it had to be pushed in to the Garage as the clutch was completely worn out.
(nothing to do with my driving I have only done 7000miles it was probably the guy that did the other 94000 that wore the clutch out.

Bummer all the same.
Not a problem I will have with the auto box - but of course there could be worse things!

Thanks mate I can't see anything loose under the bonnet, the boost is nearer the red line than the middle of the yellow.If it doesn't improve I will take it back to the guy that fixed it on wednesday.
