Egr Blank/Remove 2008 9-3 1.9 Tid

I’ve seen the amount of crap that builds up in the inlet but has anyone here done a partial blank or full removal and mapped out?
I can live with cleaning it once a year but if it’s possible to get rid then that’s what I’d do.
Some people suggest it’s critical for good dpf operation others not.

Did it to my 2006 1.9 TID , blanking plate then had the EGR mapped out to stop the light. Upshot smoother no hesitance at 2000 rpm, no more nasty gunk clogging the intake or the turbo boost pressure sensor. 30,000 miles since done no issues. Car will take a little longer to warm up.
