2006 1.9 tid 9-3 Vector Sport weird problem

Hi Swedish Beards!

I've recently bought an 06 1.9 tid Vector Sport Auto, my first ever diesel.
I bought it with a declared egr valve fault and had a recon egr valve and manifold fitted at distressing expense.
This hasn't cleared the problem!
From cold I always have a fully functioning engine which pulls well though the eml is on and occasionally it'll smoke like a steamer.
Restarting, sometimes even when still cold though and some of the time it loses the turbo effectively, sometimes if I start it and let it idle for a length of time this seems to help.
It's weird, garage says the egr valve is working fine and it could be the swirl flap motor.
Any ideas chaps?

I have same engine but 07 and had a similar problem turned out to be a blocked dpf. It started with the same symptoms but me and my mechanic couldn't figure it out until it put a hole in the exhaust gasket.
