My son-in-law's car has developed two faults, either at the same time or close together:

1. The heated seats have both stopped working
2. The heater system fan(s) have stopped working.

He's a cold boy driving to workfrown

Could these two things be linked electrically to one fuse or relay, or should I be suspecting mice?
We do live in the country, and I know there are mice in the garden.

My researches so far in the hand book suggest that the heated seats are separately fused, numbers 15 and 16 in the boot.
They also suggest that the fan is fused elsewhere, though I don't know what Saab mean by "secondary air" unless primary air is the engine's air intake.
Also, what are all the astersisks liberally spread throughout the fuse pages meant to indicate?
Finally, the handbook usefully tells me where the fuse box is in the boot of a saloon or convertible, but not a Sproutwagon (as we call it around Christmas) hehe

Update:

Found the rear fuse box - fuses ok. Checked the fuse for the heater fan (I think) - fuse ok.

Had a fiddle with the aircon/heater controls.
With the aircon on Auto, cold car, engine running, temp set to 23, fans don't come on.
Put it into manual mode, you can turn up the fan, no problem.
Seat heater dashboard symbols also come on if in manual mode, but still no heat under the bum.
Left the engine running for ten minutes having checked that the coolant was full.
Water temperature gauge never came off stone cold, and air coming through the vents never came off stone cold either.

Its as if no hot water is being diverted past the heater or the temp sender (and hence if in Auto mode, it knows not to freeze you.
I seem to remember I once had an expensive car (Merc, Audi, Lexus?) that did the same thing.

Any thoughts?

Winter has arrived. When I had the old 9-5 2.2tid it could take ten miles before any heat came through at all.

I had a 1.8 vectra with similar issue (not heated seats though). Temp gauge never got much off cold and couldn't warm the interior up.

Mine turned out to be a thermostat that was stuck wide open so engine was stay very cool and not passing any heat to the heater matrix for the interior.

That was what I decided yesterday evening - it took about 3x longer to give any warmth than my other cars.
So we will change the thermostat tomorrow. The electric seats - will get a multimeter on the plug
