I have a 9-3 hatchback 2.0 HOT manual from 2002.
I bought it as my daily a year ago and it runs in a long line of slightly interesting sheds (XJ8, BMW325i, etc)
Problem is I may have found the perfect car, it's fast (Noob stage 1) civilised, comfy (nice leather seats), massive boot, meets wife approval, and not too bad on fuel considering it's power output.
It's a problem as it's a slightly sheddy one, so if I get 2 years more from it I'll be doing well, seems reliable at the mo. They don't make them anymore so finding another manual HOT could be difficult. I do prefer the hatchback too, don't want an estate or a diesel.

Don't know what could replace it. My car has to do family + commuting duties so the practical side is necessary, yet still has to make me smile.

Has anyone replaced their fast SAAB with something else similar or better for no more than 3 cashpoint visits?

nope !!

i keep the GTV V6 for playing but the daily has been saab since my first NG900 turbo. tried 9-5 aero's (probably a better car to be honest, had 3) but am now on 9-3 aero coupe #9, strangely, only ever in black or silver

the coupe is getting harder to find but, given what i pay for them, i just pounce when i see one that i like the look of. then i swap the best bits from the outgoing car, rinse and repeat

They are a hard act to follow. I had a sheddy 9-5 2.3 turbo, it was great. However it threw a coil pack and then the low oil pressure issue returned just before an MoT, so I got rid. I now have a slightly less sheddy Mondeo, which is as boring as hell but very easy to live with. An MX5 supplies the fun. Maybe mine was a bit too far down the food chain but I never really loved it.

It's unfortunate for you that the 9-5 doesn't come in a hatchback. But good 9-5's can be found cheaply, and my last one purchased in January cost me less than one trip to the cashpoint. With a £100 Noobtune Stage 1 would have been better, but I only bought it to see if I could live wit a 9-5, hence now having the one I have now (Stage 3 tune).
