Saab 9-5 BHP Output?
Discussion
Currently looking for a large estate and Saab 9-5s have cropped up on my radar.
I'd be after a manual, petrol 2.3 but I'm not too clued up about the various power outputs.
I've seen this car, a 2.3T Turbo Edition, and Autotrader says it has 256bhp, but I'm not so sure. I thought only the Aero models had that sort of power.
http://www.mouselow.co.uk/used-cars/saab-9-5-2-3-t...
Is there a definitive guide to 9-5s and the various power outputs they produce, or can anybody here shed some light on it?
Also, are there any particular things I should look out for with these Saabs when going to view them?

Thanks for the replies, everyone.
I'm still a little confused though. I found this quote on another thread...
I've had one for six months and I love it...Any ideas?

I'm after a 2005-on 95 Aero estate, can someone please explain what is the difference between an Aero and a 2.3 Turbo Edition?
I thought the Aero HOT was the one I was after but the 2.3 Turbo Edition would appear to have the same engine?
The 2.3 Turbo Edition is an Aero with SatNav, Harman Kardon Speakers, Memory for drivers seat and different wheels iircI'm after a 2005-on 95 Aero estate, can someone please explain what is the difference between an Aero and a 2.3 Turbo Edition?

The 2.3T edition is an Aero with memory seats, Harman Kardon audio and sat nav and a full 260bhp... All the bright work is satin finished rather than chrome , they're a hoot to drive not great around corners but straights are a different matter
So the 2.3T Turbo has a different power output from the 2.3T Edition (220bhp vs 260bhp)?Look here

As I said before.....the last run out Aero's had 260bhp, not the 2.3T
There's just confusion over the nomenclature. If it's not badged areo it will have 220 bhp or less!

Some cars badged as Turbo Editions are actually full Aero’s marketed as Turbo Edition's and registered as Turbo Editions by the selling dealer but the Saab SMS system has them recorded as full Aero's! This was probably a way of getting some bonus out of Saab and allowing them to be sold for a considerably reduced price when new. Others are were in fact built and marketed as 2.3T Turbo Editions though they are in fact Aero's minus some badging. An easy way to determine whether a car started life as an Aero or as a Turbo Edition is to check the two front door kick plates, a car that started out as an Aero will have the Saab Aero logo on the kick plates and the Aero logo on the boot, ones that were built as 2.3 Turbo Edition's have a 2.3T logo on the boot lid and either plain front kick plates or kicplates with the Vector Logo on them!
I suppose without going to see the actual car, I'm not going to be sure. It's a shame the car is 170 odd miles away. It's not like I can just pop over to make sure One other problem is that my current car - a Mondeo TDCi estate - has only 130bhp (on a good day!), so I'm not 100% certain I'll be able to differentiate between 220/260bhp if I drive it. All I will know is that it will be much quicker than mine!

Ok then I think you have
2.3t. 185bhp
2.3T. 220bhp
Aero 235-260 depending on year
2.3 Turbo Edition 260bhp, will be a very late model
That's looks about right. I've done a bit more digging, and it seems that the Aero name was dropped for the 2009.5 model year, and was replaced with the 2.3T Edition. The car I'm interested in was registered in December 2009, so that makes a bit more sense 2.3t. 185bhp
2.3T. 220bhp
Aero 235-260 depending on year
2.3 Turbo Edition 260bhp, will be a very late model
Just want to go and have a drive of the damn thing now! Unfortunately bank holiday, my kid's birthday, half term and work are getting in the way! That and the fact it's 170 miles away
i think (but more than happy to be corrected) that in later years "Aero" became a "lesser" model in the range with it's focus on performance enhancements rather than additional toys.
the later the car the more confused i get but a late aero need not have the spec one might expect whereas the earlier aero's were range-topping

ETA - Just looked at the advert you've linked and that looks identical to mine - same wheels, subwoofer in the right of boot, memory seat etc. Picked mine up in February privately for £5k although I've had to spend a bit since sorting a few issues

The quoted bit from GrumpGriffin fits with my car - I have a 2010 Turbo Edition that is badged 2.3T (and has the vector kickplates!) and has 260bhp so is effectively an aero. I have the original brochure which shows all the specs for the various Turbo Editions, happy to scan and post if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the info Addey. Shame you missed out on that one, they don't come up very often! When I got mine I'd pretty much given up looking for a newer one (09/10 reg) but happened to check on autotrader one day and mine had literally just been listed so called up.
My new one was due a service/MOT when I bought it and ended up needing a couple of new tyres and 2 rear shock absorbers, so I guess wear and tear items, just a shame I was paying for them and not the previous owner! Obviously you probably wouldn't have those issues on a dealer-purchased car. More annoying though is I've had issues with the turbo and ended up having it sent off and reconditioned a couple of weeks ago. Something still isn't right so I'm speaking to the garage this week. Think I've been unlucky as this doesn't seem to be a common problem on the newer cars. My other aero is still on its original turbo after 12 years and 170000 miles!

So my reply might be academic now.....! This is my 2nd aero, I've also got a 2004 estate (that I really need to sell!) that I had for 5.5 years / 70k miles. For my needs they are the perfect car, plenty of space, comfortable, quick and great value for money. I like the fact they are a bit heavy and barge-like to drive with pedals and gearbox to match! Mid range power is great for effortless overtaking. My new one was due a service/MOT when I bought it and ended up needing a couple of new tyres and 2 rear shock absorbers, so I guess wear and tear items, just a shame I was paying for them and not the previous owner! I bought my 09 Turbo Edition saloon from the first owner 18 months ago when it had covered 12k. It's now showing 20k and going for an mot later. It's a big comfortable car with great seats and lots of spec. It's thirsty around town-low 20's and demands super unleaded. I don't know how it runs on lesser fuel, I've never tried it and the chap I bought it firm insisted that super was the only way to go.
It doesn't inspire confidence cornering hard as its softly sprung feeling uncomfortable when pushed. It does have surprising 3rd gear wallop though and the stereo, air con, nav and heated front and rear seats make it a nice place to sit.
I fancy a change but there is a dearth of low mileage, privately owned cars available. I want a family sized car as my daily and a change to a 4 or 5 year old 5 series would cost triple that of my Saab whilst offering little more. I saw me of the newer model 9-5's in the gym car park on Monday which look really nice. They have held their value remarkably when you consider the marque is redundant now.
