Rear Brake Light Failure (Or Not)
Discussion
i don't fully understand the rat's nest called a wiring loom and how it communicates with the car but i think it goes something along the lines of:
when a bulb gets a bit iffy or doesn't contact properly, the voltage (?) measured when i self test will differ across the rear and that must mean a bulb is out so i'll tell SID to raise an error message"
often 2 new bulbs will fix it

Hi
Sold the soft top last month, but I did have the same problem about a year ago.
Saab design which I think is cleaver is that when your brake light fails, it increases the brightness intensity of the rear light when the brakes are applied, hence keeping 2 rear brake lights to warn following motorists.
When you check without knowing this, it appears that both brake lights work, but if you look closely, the failed side light, it is the rear tail light at higher brightness illuminated which is closer to the centre of the car.
I didn't believe this at first when told, warning light, both lights working etc, but when I checked closely it app[eared to be correct, changed the 'faulty' bulb, and normality was resumed!
