Changing from 9-5 Aero to...........9-5 diesel ?
Discussion
So something i have been putting off thinking about for awhile.
I have a 9-5 Aero estate, absolutely love it, my mobile office, fast enough, well specced etc etc but....
I am self employed buying and selling on Ebay. When i bought this car Aug 2013, my main 2 suppliers were local, my mileage was low, compared to the other cars i looked at (5 series tourer / E class) this seemed a bargain. And it has been, probably the best car i have ever owned. Now for the 'small' problem.
My 2 local suppliers have become unreliable / putting prices up etc so i have been finding myself going further afield to find stock and while i can get low 30's on a run I am starting to think a diesel will suit my situation better.
So what to replace it with. Well it has to be another 9-5 estate but a diesel ( i think a lower powered petrol will be even more depressing) so my questions are basically around which diesel engine is best ? I like the look of the 3.0 one but cant believe mpg will be much better, the 2.2 one, is that a Vauxhall ?
Any other suggestions more than welcome, btw I cant drive any slower lol, LPG is a option, load space similar to the 9-5 is essential.
Thanks

I bought my '53 plate 9-5 2.2 Tid Vector estate 2 yrs ago having researched the whole 3.0 Tid saga and also having been convinced that at that time I should go for a chain driven engine rather than a cambelt version ala the 1.9 Tid. I needed a good value diesel estate in which to do a 115 mile a day round trip to work & back. Now 45k miles on (with 150k showing), other than a periodic cleaning of the EGR (a common fault apparently when doing a lot of short journeys - SWMBO had it for 1 yr) & a few small wear & tear suspension bits plus servicing, the car has run well and does upto 750 miles on a tank at decent motorway speeds with 2 up and a small amount of luggage. The car has more than accomplished itself in its stay with me & although I'd not had a Saab before, my 2 yrs of ownership has led me to a 9-3,150 bhp Tid sportwagon being the replacement as of today.
The 2.2 isn't especially quiet a low speeds although has reasonable torque and was enough for me to haul a twin axle car trailer with a GTV V6 back from Somerset at a good rate & still did an indicated 28 mpg. I couldn't have owned a better diesel estate for the money - Is that sufficient words of support for the 2.2 Tid?
