Does anyone have any info on the occurrence of the bulkhead splitting on 9-3 chassis, seems to be more prevalent were 17" wheels are fitted as standard. SAAB are aware of this and apparently will cover cost under warranty (when pushed, not normal wear and tear).

Just curious - does your car have any additional bracing at the front body clip - e.g. Abbott subframe brace, (uprated) strut brace etc. ?

Car is a standard Viggen 99 model 57k on clock
Did a bit of googling last night, it does happen, someone stated that some dealers have had 3 to 4 a week over the summer. Seems it is a particular steering rack type as well.

The only time I've heard about bulkhead splitting is on cars that have an aftermarket uprated steering clamp. (aka Viggen Rescue Kit steering clamp).

That said, i've had the VRK on my 9-3 for about 4 years and no adverse problems.

Hmmm - would have thought that with the rather unstable mounting of the rack to the bulkhead using a stamped steel bracket (which incidentally is responsible for a lot of the perceived torque steer in the Viggen) the latter would give first before thebulkhead took any damage. I might dig into this with some of the Saab contacts I have that are more familiar with the later cars, and see what they find.
